  1. 11. Modelling of Molecular-Scale Nanoelectromechanical Systems

    Author : Caroline Huldt; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; shuttle; mesoscopic; NEMS; graphene; multiscale; DFTB; DFT;

    Abstract : Nanoelectromechanical systems (NEMS) couple electronic and mechanical degrees of freedom in a nanoscopic structure. The small size introduces many atomistic and quantum mechanical features which on the one hand open up for interesting new features and possibilities but on the other hand make it very difficult to formulate quantitative predictions. 2. 12. Development of Transient Flamelet Library Based Combustion Models

    Author : Harry Lehtiniemi; Förbränningsfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; auto-ignition; conditional moment closure; Tabulated chemistry; flamelet; spray; non-premixed combustion; Fysicumarkivet A:2012:Lehtiniemi;

    Abstract : Three different methods for Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes computational fluid dynamics modeling of non-premixed ignition and combustion using tabulated chemistry have been developed. All methods make use of flamelet libraries, where the flamelet auto-ignition process is parameterized using a progress variable. READ MORE

  3. 13. Magnetotransport and Persistent Currents in Ballistic Microstructures

    Author : Thomas Swahn; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : In this Thesis we discuss properties of different ballistic microstructures in the presence of a magnetic field. Three topics have been studied: (i) the magnetoconductance of a three-dimensional (3D) microwire, (ii) magnetotransport and persistent currents in a two-dimensional so called "quantum dot" in a gated AlGaAs heterostructure, and (iii) some magnetotransport properties of a quasi one-dimensional conducting channel in the same kind of material. 4. 14. Gating and modulation mechanism of voltage gated sodium channels

    Author : Koushik Choudhury; Lucie Delemotte; Erik Lindahl; Philip Biggin; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Voltage gated sodium channels; Molecular dynamics simulation; π-helix; open state; Biologisk fysik; Biological Physics;

    Abstract : Voltage-gated sodium channels (Nav channels) play an essential role in nerve impulse conduction in excitable cells. Thus, these channels are involved in several neurological and muscular disorders. Understanding their mechanism of functioning  is essential for designing drugs targeting them. READ MORE
