  1. 1. Toxicological and Immunomodulatory Properties of Mesoporous Silica Particles : Applications in Life Sciences

    Author : Natalia Kupferschmidt; Alfonso E Garcia-Bennett; Susanne Gabrielsson; Mika Lindén; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; mesoporous silica; biocompatibility; adjuvants; drug delivery systems; obesity;

    Abstract : Mesoporous silica particles offer great potential benefits as vehicles for drug delivery and in other biomedical applications. They present a high loading capacity due their ordered and size-tuneable pores that allow molecules to be loaded and released. READ MORE

  2. 2. Mechanistic studies of the adjuvant effects of CTA1-DD and the native cholera toxin: Impact of cell targeting and tissue localization

    Author : Johan Mattsson; Göteborgs universitet; Göteborgs universitet; Gothenburg University; []
    Keywords : Vaccines; adjuvants; cholera toxin; germinal center; CTA1-DD; follicular dendritic cells; denritic cells; Th1; Th2; Th17; complement;

    Abstract : Vaccines are the most effective means of preventing infectious diseases and improving global health. However, few vaccines have successfully been developed for protection at mucosal surfaces where most pathogens gain access. READ MORE

  3. 3. Production of polyclonal antibodies in rabbits and chickens immunised with human immunoglobulin G : A study of the utility of egg yolk antibody production as a substitute for rabbit serum antibody production

    Author : Lise Svendsen Bollen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Laboratory animals; antibody production; egg yolk; adjuvants; antibody response; avidity; Försöksdjursvetenskap; Laboratory animal science; Försöksdjursvetenskap; zoologisk utvecklingsbiologi; Animal Development;

    Abstract : The utility of chicken egg yolk antibodies as an alternative to rabbit antisera was studied by comparing antibody and avidity development in immunised animals (15 rabbits and 30 chickens) during a one-year immunisation scheme. Human IgG was used as the model antigen and the efficacy of three adjuvants, Freund's Complete Adjuvant, Freund's Incomplete Adjuvant and Hunter's TiterMax, was compared. READ MORE

  4. 4. The development of a new combined adjuvant vector for mucosal immunization CTA1-DD/ISCOM

    Author : Anja Helgeby; Göteborgs universitet; Göteborgs universitet; Gothenburg University; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; CTA1-DD; ISCOM; adjuvants; enzyme; vaccine; B cell; Dendritic cell; T cells;

    Abstract : The CTA1-DD/ISCOMs vector is a rationally designed mucosal adjuvant that was developed to host the distinctive properties of either adjuvant alone or in a combination that hosted additive enhancing effects on mucosal immune responses. Here I demonstrate that CTA1-DD can be incorporated into the ISCOM with greatly augmented immunogenicity of both incorporated and admixed antigen. READ MORE

  5. 5. Mucosal adjuvants and their mode of action in the female genital tract

    Author : Madelene Lindqvist; Göteborgs universitet; Göteborgs universitet; Gothenburg University; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; immunology; mucosal adjuvants; genital tract; vaccine; HSV-2; mouse; alpha-galactosylceramid; CpG ODN; proteoliposome-derived cochleate; inflammation; bioinformatics;

    Abstract : Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) cause a socioeconomic burden, morbidity and even mortality in a large part of the human population all over the world today. One of the most common genital ulcerative diseases is caused by herpes simplex virus type 2 with over 536 million people infected world-wide. READ MORE
