1. Surface Force and Friction : effects of adsorbed layers and surface topography
Abstract : Interfacial features of polymers are a complex, fascinating topic, and industrially very important. There is clearly a need to understand interactions between polymer layers as they can be used for controlling surface properties, colloidal stability and lubrication. The aim of my Ph. READ MORE

2. Biolubricants and Biolubrication
Abstract : The main objective of this thesis work was to gain understanding of the principles of biolubrication, focusing on synergistic effects between biolubricants. To this end surface force and friction measurements were carried out by means of Atomic Force Microscopy, using hydrophilic and hydrophobic model surfaces in salt solutions of high ionic strength (≈ 150 mM) in presence of different biolubricants. 3. Development of Non-leaching Antibacterial Approaches on Cellulose-based Substrates and Their Mechanisms
Abstract : The layer-by-layer (LbL) technique is becoming a powerful tool that has been applied in many surface coatings and functionalizations in recent years. It has many advantages including a fast and mild process, the flexibility of choice of substrate, and the easiness to scale-up. READ MORE

4. Bacterial adhesion to polyelectrolyte modified materials based on nanocellulose
Abstract : Since the introduction of materials based on cellulose nanofibrils (CNFs), these materials have been studied extensively and are suggested to be suitable for use in, for example, hygiene and health care products. A property not very well studied but that could further increase the usability of CNF products is the possibility of controlling bacterial adhesion to the materials. READ MORE

5. Polyelectrolytes on Surfaces and their Complexes with Surfactants, Thermodynamics versus kinetics
Abstract : The interfacial properties of polyelectrolytes, mainly cationic with various content of amphiphilic groups, and their complexes with an oppositely charged surfactant, sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), have been investigated using time-resolved ellipsometry. This thesis focuses on the kinetics and reversibility aspects of polymer adsorption and the control of the adsorption by regulating the electrostatic interactions. READ MORE
