  1. 1. Biomimetic Reactions : Water Oxidation and Aerobic Oxidation

    Author : Lien-Hoa Tran; Björn Åkermark; Nina Kann; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cobalt II salophen; oxygen-activating catalyst; hybrid; manganese complex; epoxidation; water oxidation.; Organic chemistry; Organisk kemi; organisk kemi; Organic Chemistry;

    Abstract : This thesis deals mainly with two oxidation reactions: water oxidation and aerobic oxidation, both of which have been applied in a biomimetic fashion. In the former reaction molecular oxygen is generated whereas in the latter it was used as terminal oxidant in oxidation reactions. READ MORE

  2. 2. Catalysts for Oxygen Production and Utilization : Closing the Oxygen Cycle: From Biomimetic Oxidation to Artificial Photosynthesis

    Author : Erik Karlsson; Jan-Erling Bäckvall; Björn Åkermark; Jerker Mårtensson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; oxygen; catalytic oxidation; biomimetic oxidation; artificial photosynthesis; water oxidation; DFT calculations; Organic chemistry; Organisk kemi; organisk kemi; Organic Chemistry;

    Abstract : This thesis describes the development and study of catalysts for redox reactions, which either utilize oxygen or hydrogen peroxide for the purpose of selectively oxidizing organic substrates, or produce oxygen as the necessary byproduct in the production of hydrogen by artificial photosynthesis.The first chapter gives a general introduction about the use of environmentally friendly oxidants in the field of organic synthesis, and about the field of artificial photosynthesis. 3. 3. Photoactive EDA complexes in visible light driven aerobic oxidations

    Author : August Runemark; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; visible light; EDA complex; aerobic oxidation; photochemical; organic synthesis;

    Abstract : Organic synthesis driven by photochemical activation has been proven very promising in a range of scenarios within academia and industry. The emergence of photoredox catalysis has fueled an ever-growing interest in the use of visible light as a convenient energy source for a variety of radical reactions otherwise difficult to achieve. 4. 4. Oxidation and reduction reactions of the water-oxidizing complex in photosystem II

    Author : Long Vo Pham; Johannes Messinger; Imre Vass; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Photosystem II PSII ; oxidation; reduction; flash induced oxygen evolution pattern FIOP ; water; oxygen; global fitting program GFP ; thylakoids; fysikalisk kemi; Physical Chemistry;

    Abstract : The oxygen that we breathe and food that we eat are products of the natural photosynthesis. Molecular oxygen is crucial for life on Earth owing to its role in the glycolysis and citric acid pathways that yield in aerobic organisms the energy-rich ATP molecules. READ MORE

  5. 5. Aerobic Oxidative N-Heterocyclic Carbene Catalysis via Multistep Electron Transfer - Method Development and Applications

    Author : Anton Axelsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; N-heterocyclic carbene; asymmetric synthesis; esterification; glycerol; electron transfer mediator; green chemistry; telescoped reaction; Organocatalysis; aerobic oxidation; dihydropyranone;

    Abstract : Oxidation reactions are ubiquitous in synthetic chemistry, but generally suffer from formation of large amounts of potentially toxic byproducts. Aerial oxygen represents an ideal oxidant since it is inexpensive, non-toxic and only forms water as a byproduct. READ MORE
