  1. 1. Primary Marine Aerosol : Validation of sea spray source functions using observations and transport modeling

    Author : Henrik Grythe; Johan Ström; Krejci Radovan; Bo Gustafsson; Lars Ahlm; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; marine aerosol; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Abstract : Sea spray aerosols (SSA) are an important part of the climate system through their effects on the global radiative budget, both directly as scatterers and absorbers of solar and terrestrial radiation, and indirectly as cloud condensation nuclei (CCN) influencing cloud formation, lifetime and precipitation. In terms of their global mass, SSA is the largest source and has the largest uncertainty of all aerosols. READ MORE

  2. 2. Characteristics of fresh and aged carbonaceous aerosol from anthropogenic combustion sources

    Author : Erik Nordin; Ergonomi och aerosolteknologi; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Aerosol; biomass combustion; gasoline vehicle exhaust; polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons; secondary organic aerosol; soot; mass-mobility relationship; emissions; toxicity;

    Abstract : Emissions from anthropogenic combustion sources, such as light duty vehicles and small scale biomass combustion, contribute significantly to ambient aerosol particle concentrations both on local and global scales. These emissions have controlling impacts on public health and global climate. READ MORE

  3. 3. The influence of biogenic organic compounds on cloud formation

    Author : Sanna Ekström; Barbara Nozière; Tomas Alsberg; Hans-Christen Hansson; Ernest Weingartner; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : biogenic; aerosol; CCN; water-soluble; microorganisms; surfactant; organosulfate; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Abstract : Aerosols and clouds provide the largest uncertainty in the atmospheric radiation budget. The main focus of this thesis was to investigate the ability of organic compounds in aerosol particles to form clouds, and more specifically those emitted by living organisms. READ MORE

  4. 4. Formation, ageing and thermal properties of secondary organic aerosol

    Author : Eva U. Emanuelsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; volatile organic compounds; biogenic; anthropogenic; secondary organic aerosol; troposphere; volatility; ozone;

    Abstract : In order to properly represent and predict the effects of aerosol in climate systems, an accurate description of their formation and properties is needed. This thesis describes work done to increase the knowledge of processes and properties of atmospherically relevant secondary organic aerosol (SOA) from both biogenic and anthropogenic origin. 5. 5. Alkali-containing aerosol particles-release during biomass combustion and ambient air concentrations

    Author : Borka Kovacevik; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; aerosol; alkali metal; sodium; potassium; pyrolysis; combustion; biomass burning.;

    Abstract : Air pollution in the form of particles has considerable influence on human health and climate. Atmospheric aerosol particles arise from direct emissions of particles and from the conversion of certain gases to particles in the atmosphere. READ MORE
