  1. 1. Quantification of sources and removal mechanisms of atmospheric aerosol particles

    Author : Henrik Grythe; Johan Ström; Dominick Spracklen; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; aerosol; aerosol removal; aerosol emission; aerosol sources; FLEXPART; Arctic aerosol; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Abstract : The focus of this work has been to quantify important processes for climatically relevant aerosols, and to improve our understanding of, and ability to accurately model, aerosols in the atmosphere on a large scale. This thesis contains five papers focused on different parts of the life cycle of atmospheric aerosol particles. READ MORE

  2. 2. Aerosol characterization in real life and a methodology for human exposure studies in controlled chamber settings

    Author : Christina Isaxon; NanoLund: Centre for Nanoscience; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Aerosol; human exposure study; exposure; emission; ultrafine particles; aerosol generation; aerosol characterization; candle; terpene; welding; CNT; indoor;

    Abstract : Airborne particles are everywhere around us, and have always been. Particles generated by human activities has increased drastically since industrialization, and several epidemiological studies have shown that inhaled particles can cause adverse health effects. READ MORE

  3. 3. Primary Marine Aerosol : Validation of sea spray source functions using observations and transport modeling

    Author : Henrik Grythe; Johan Ström; Krejci Radovan; Bo Gustafsson; Lars Ahlm; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; marine aerosol; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Abstract : Sea spray aerosols (SSA) are an important part of the climate system through their effects on the global radiative budget, both directly as scatterers and absorbers of solar and terrestrial radiation, and indirectly as cloud condensation nuclei (CCN) influencing cloud formation, lifetime and precipitation. In terms of their global mass, SSA is the largest source and has the largest uncertainty of all aerosols. READ MORE

  4. 4. The high Arctic summer aerosol : Size, chemical composition, morphology and evolution over the pack-ice

    Author : Evelyne Hamacher-Barth; Caroline Leck; Stephan Weinbruch; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Arctic; aerosol; marine gel; electron microscopy; EDX-spectroscopy; chemical composition; morphology; size distribution; atmosfärvetenskap och oceanografi; Atmospheric Sciences and Oceanography;

    Abstract : Aerosol particles, especially in the high Arctic are still not very well represented in climate models. Particle size and number concentrations are strongly under-predicted and temporal variations of aerosol composition and size are still not very well understood, mainly due to the sparsity of observations. 5. 5. Development and Evaluation of Methods in Source Apportionment of the Carbonaceous Aerosol

    Author : Johan Martinsson; Kärnfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; carbonaceous aerosol; organic aerosol; aerosol particles; source apportionment; air pollution;

    Abstract : Carbonaceous aerosols are known to affect human health negatively and to affect the climate of Earth. As specific types of aerosols originate from specific sources, it is important to know the amount of aerosols emitted from each source. Aerosol source apportionment is an important tool in mitigating air pollution and improving air quality. READ MORE
