  1. 1. Interaction between Adenosine and Angiotensin II in Renal Afferent Arterioles of Mice

    Author : Enyin Lai; A. Erik G. Persson; Göran Bergström; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Physiology; adenosine; angiotensin II; afferent arteriole; calcium; nitric oxide; microperfusion; tubuloglomerular feedback; Fysiologi;

    Abstract : Renal arterioles represent the most important effecter site in the control of renal perfusion and filtration. Adenosine (Ado), angiotensin II (Ang II) and nitric oxide (NO) interact in modulating arteriolar tone. The present work investigates the mechanism of this interaction. READ MORE

  2. 2. Calcium Responses in the Renal Afferent Arteriole to Angiotensin II and Norepinephrine Stimulation

    Author : Mark Kornfeld; Klinisk neurofysiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; norepinephrine; angiotensin II; smooth muscle cells; afferent arteriole; calcium; Kidney; renal hemodynamics; Physiology; Fysiologi;

    Abstract : Studies were performed to investigate the influence of the vasoconstrictors angiotensin II (AII) and norepinephrine (NE) on calcium metabolism in smooth muscle cells of afferent arterioles. Fura-2 and image analysis techniques were used to evaluate calcium responses in the proximal and distal parts of afferent arterioles with attached glomeruli. READ MORE

  3. 3. Studies of nucleotide receptors-induced calcium response in glomerular mesangial cells and afferent arterioles

    Author : Antonio M. Gutiérrez; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Physiology and anatomy; mesangial cells; nucleotide receptors; purinoceptors; desensitization; afferent arterioles; ATP; UTP; adenosine; protein phosphatases; calcium; Fysiologi och anatomi; Physiology and pharmacology; Fysiologi och farmakologi; Physiology; fysiologi;

    Abstract : It is known that intracellular calcium concentration ([Ca2+]i) changes in rat glomerular mesangial cells (GMC) and rabbit afferent arterioles (AA) in response to extracellular nucleotides. We studied the nucleotide-induced calcium response in cultured GMC and AA. READ MORE

  4. 4. A sensory role for the cruciate ligaments : regulation of joint stability via reflexes onto the γ-muscle-spindle system

    Author : Per Sjölander; Håkan Johansson; Uwe Windhorst; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Joint afferent; Mechanoreceptor; Cruciate ligament; Fusimotor neuron; reflex; muscle spindle afferent; motor control; cat;

    Abstract : Reflex effects evoked by graded electrical stimulation of the posterior articular nerves (PAN) of the ipsi- and contralateral knee joints were investigated using both micro-electrode recordings from 7 - motoneurones and recordings from single muscle muscle spindle afferents. Spindle afferent responses were also recorded using natural stimulation of different types of receptors, to elucidate if the articular reflexes onto the y -motoneurones were potent enough to significantly alter the muscle spindle afferent activity. 5. 5. Endothelial Nitric Oxide in the Control of Glomerular Hemodynamics

    Author : János Pittner; Daniel H. Casellas; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell biology; Juxtamedullary nephron; afferent arteriole; nitric oxide; endothelial calcium; diaminofluoresceins; fura-2; autoregulation; shear stress; flow; videomicroscopy; Cellbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi; Physiology; fysiologi;

    Abstract : The afferent arteriole of the kidney is a unique vascular segment: it is the effector of the renal hemodynamic autoregulation. The use of the isolated, perfused juxtamedullary nephron preparation makes it possible to visualize the afferent arteriole while preserving its tissue surroundings and the functional integrity of the nephron.
