  2. 2. Regulation of Tissue Factor and Coagulation Activity : Translation Studies with Focus on Platelet-Monocyte Aggregates and Patients with Acute Coronary Syndrome

    Author : Christina Christersson; Agneta Siegbahn; Lars Wallentin; Jonas Oldgren; Ingebjorg Seljeflot; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Internal medicine; Myocardial infarction; Coagulation; Platelet-monocyte aggregates; Tissue factor; Thrombin inhibition; Invärtesmedicin;

    Abstract : Myocardial infarction (MI) is often caused by a disruption of an atherosclerotic plaque with activation of coagulation, platelets and inflammation. The aims were; to investigate whether the oral direct thrombin inhibitor, ximelagatran affected markers for coagulation, platelet and inflammation in a patient cohort with recent MI and if the coagulation markers could identify patients with increased risk of new ischemic events; to evaluate some of the mechanisms involved in formation of platelet-monocyte aggregates (PMAs). 3. 3. Tissue Factor regulation, signaling and functions beyond coagulation with a focus on diabetes

    Author : Desireé Edén; Agneta Siegbahn; Sofia Ramström; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Tissue factor; diabetes; cell signaling; coagulation; beta cells; adipocytes; apoptosis; lipolysis; micro RNA; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science;

    Abstract : Background: Tissue factor (TF) is a 47 kDa transmembrane glycoprotein best known for initiating the coagulation cascade upon binding of its ligand FVIIa. Apart from its physiological role in coagulation, TF and TF/FVIIa signaling has proved to be involved in diseases such as diabetes, cancer and cardiovascular diseases. READ MORE

  4. 4. Studies on Tissue Factor with Focus on Cell Signaling and Cancer

    Author : Oskar Eriksson; Agneta Siegbahn; Lina Badimon; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Tissue Factor; blood coagulation; cell signaling; protease; mass spectrometry; immunohistochemistry; colorectal cancer; apoptosis; Eph receptor; Klinisk kemi; Clinical Chemistry; Molekylär cellbiologi; Molecular Cellbiology;

    Abstract : This thesis have explored the functions of the protein Tissue Factor (TF), which together with its ligand coagulation factor VII/VIIa (FVII/FVIIa) forms a proteolytic complex that functions in initiation of blood coagulation and activation of cell signaling.In paper I, the mechanisms behind the observation that TF/FVIIa signaling protects cells from apoptosis were further investigated. 5. 5. New Risk Markers in Atrial Fibrillation

    Author : Ziad Hijazi; Jonas Oldgren; Lars Wallentin; Agneta Siegbahn; Ola Hammarsten; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; atrial fibrillation; stroke risk; cardiac biomarkers; troponin; natriuretic peptides; NT-proBNP; risk stratification; Cardiology; Kardiologi;

    Abstract : Atrial fibrillation (AF) confers an independent increased risk of stroke and death. The stroke risk is very heterogeneous and current risk stratification models based on clinical variables, such as the CHADS2 and CHA2DS2VASc score, only offer a modest discriminating value. READ MORE
