  2. 2. Heated air gaps : a possibility to dry out dampness from building constructions

    Author : Tord af Klintberg; Folke Björk; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Water damage; convection; air gap; building; construction; Building engineering; Byggnadsteknik;

    Abstract : The air gap method is a modification of the common way of building indoor walls and floors. The aim of the method is to make a construction, less fragile to water damage, with air gaps where moisture can be removed with a thermally driven air flow, caused by a heating cable. The thesis includes a number of experimental studies of this method. READ MORE

  3. 3. Distribution of Ventilation Air and Heat by Buoyancy Forces inside Buildings : An Experimental Study

    Author : Claes Blomqvist; Mats Sandberg; Per Heiselberg; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; building ventilation; thermal forces; buoyancy; gravity currents; large openings; heating; air quality; forced convection; free convection; Building engineering; Byggnadsteknik;

    Abstract : The main task of the ventilation system in a building is to maintain the air quality and (together with the heating or cooling system) the thermal climate at an acceptable level within the building. This means that a sufficient amount of ventilation air at the appropriate temperature and quality must be supplied to satisfy thermal comfort and air quality demands and that this air is distributed to the parts of the building where people reside. 4. 4. Convection in Loose-fill Attic Insulation

    Author : Paula Wahlgren; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; loose-fill insulation; forced convection; attics; natural convection; heat transfer; thermal insulation;

    Abstract : The objective of this study is to investigate the influence of convection on the thermal performance of loose-fill attic insulation under realistic climate conditions. In order to achieve this, a large-scale attic test model has been constructed in a climate chamber. READ MORE

  5. 5. Natural Convection Heat Transfer in a Horizontal Thermal Insulation Layer Underlying an Air Layer

    Author : Mihail Serkitjis; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; air layer; thermal insulation; composite system; heat transfer; numerical simulation; natural convection; porous layer; measurements; testing equipment;

    Abstract : In the thesis a study is made of the influence of natural convection on heat transfer in a composite system comprising a porous material heated from below and an air space situated above this. The measuring apparatus, a Wind Box which has been designed and developed at the Department of Building Physics is described. READ MORE
