  1. 1. Efficiency of building related pump and fan operation - Application and system solutions

    Author : Caroline S Markusson; Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; motor drive; control-on-demand; hydronic systems; air systems; electric motor; variable speed; decentralized systems; pump; electric energy; fan; local systems; efficiency;

    Abstract : The electric energy use in Swedish non-industrial buildings is 71 TWh per year out of which 30 TWh per year is used for the operation of technical systems. A significant part of those 30 TWh/year is used for pump and fan operation. The Swedish parliament decided in 2009 on a national energy and climate plan. READ MORE

  2. 2. Modelling the dynamics of domestic low-temperature heat pump heating systems for improved performance and thermal comfort : a systems approach

    Author : Dimitra Sakellari; Per Lundqvist; Savvas Tassou; KTH; []
    Keywords : Technology; heat pump; domestic heating and ventilation; low-temperature hydronic heat distribution; systems approach; integration; simulation; energy efficiency; TEKNIKVETENSKAP; TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIKVETENSKAP;

    Abstract : The present environmental concerns and the rising human requirement for solutions with better comfort and lower costs have resulted in an increased awareness for the energy use in the built environment. Technical advances in building structural systems and materials, heating and other comfort-providing systems and controlling strategies all lead to the integration of building technology with the function of buildings and the aesthetics. 3. 3. Renewable Energy in Energy-Efficient, Low-Pollution Systems

    Author : Bengt Johansson; Miljö- och energisystem; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; hydrogen; ethanol; methanol; rape methyl ester; biomass; renewable energy; cogeneration; energy efficiency; scenarios; air pollution; carbon dioxide; Environmental technology; pollution control; Miljöteknik; kontroll av utsläpp;

    Abstract : Energy use accounts for the dominating fraction of total sulphur dioxide (SO2), nitrogen oxide (NOx), volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. In this thesis, different strategies for reducing these emissions are evaluated, using a bottom-up approach. The thesis is divided in two parts. READ MORE

  4. 4. Dynamics of Energy Systems - Methods of analysing technology change

    Author : Lena Neij; Internationella miljöinstitutet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Energy research; evaluation; market transformation; PV modules; wind power; experience curves; air-distribution; lighting; vintage models; sustainable energy; renewable energy; energy efficiency; Energy; energy system; Energiforskning; Environmental technology; pollution control; Miljöteknik; kontroll av utsläpp;

    Abstract : Technology change will have a central role in achieving a sustainable energy system. This calls for methods of analysing the dynamics of energy systems in view of technology change and policy instruments for effecting and accelerating technology change. In this thesis, such methods have been developed, applied, and assessed. READ MORE

  5. 5. Experimental study of an intermittent ventilation system in high occupancy spaces

    Author : Alan Kabanshi; Patrik Sörqvist; Hans Wigö; Robert Ljung; Hazim Awbi; Högskolan i Gävle; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Intermittent airflow; Indoor air quality; Perceived air quality; Thermal sensation; thermal comfort; Air movement acceptability; Convective cooling; Cooling effect.; Intermittent luftflöde; Luftstrålar; Upplevd luftkvalitet; Termisk komfort; Acceptans av luftrörelser; Konvektiv kylning; Kyleffekt.; Hållbar stadsutveckling; Sustainable Urban Development;

    Abstract : Spaces with high occupancy density like classrooms are challenging to ventilate and use a lot of energy to maintain comfort. Usually, a compromise is made between low energy use and good Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ), of which poor IEQ has consequences for occupants’ health, productivity and comfort. READ MORE
