21. Energy transition in transportation : Applying TIMES-based energy system optimisation models to sub-national levels
Abstract : Transportation is embedded in the fabric of society and a key enabler of socio-economic development, but it is also a major source of carbon dioxide (CO2) and local air pollution (AP). Cities collectively account for around three quarters of total energy-related CO2 emissions, and the negative health impacts from local APs are most felt in dense urban environments. READ MORE

22. Emissions from realistic operation of residential wood pellets heating systems
Abstract : Emissions from residential combustion appliances vary significantly depending on the firing behaviours and combustion conditions, in addition to combustion technologies and fuel quality. Although wood pellet combustion in residential heating boilers is efficient, the combustion conditions during start-up and stop phases are not optimal and produce significantly high emissions such as carbon monoxide and hydrocarbon from incomplete combustion. 23. Achieving building energy performance : requirements and evaluation methods for residential buildings in Sweden, Norway, and Finland
Abstract : Building energy performance has always been important in the cold climate of Sweden, Norway and Finland. To meet the goal that all new buildings should be nearly zero-energy buildings by 2020, set in the EU directive 2010/31/EU [1] on the energy performance of buildings (EPBD recast), the building sector in Europe now faces a transition towards buildings with improved energy performance. 24. Energy Use, Efficiency Gains and Emission Abatement in Transitional Industrialised Economies: Poland and the Baltic States
Abstract : This thesis is a study of how energy use and air pollution in Poland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania have been affected by the economic transition after 1989. It consists of six articles, which examine three different aspects of these changes. READ MORE

25. Bio-SNG from Thermal Gasification - Process Synthesis, Integration and Performance
Abstract : Biomethane or synthetic natural gas (Bio-SNG) produced from gasified renewable woody biomass is a promising option for replacing fossil natural gas. The complete interchangeability with natural gas in all its conventional applications such as in the power generation, transportation and chemical industry sector is of particular interest. READ MORE
