  1. 1. Sustainable Freight Transport from an Urban Perspective

    Author : Sönke Behrends; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; sustainable transport; urban freight transport; intermodal transport; rail transport; Sustainability;

    Abstract : The trend of growing road freight transport causes significant negative impacts on the society, economy and environment. A substantial share of the road freight sector’s externalities is imposed on urban areas because cities are the main destination for freight flows either for production, consumption or for transfer to other locations. 2. 2. Air transport liberalisation in the European community 1987-1992 : A case of integration

    Author : Robin Travis; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Political science; European Union; air transport; aviation; liberalisation; integration theory; game theory; neo-functionalism; intergovernmentalism; Statsvetenskap; Political science; Statsvetenskap; statskunskap; Political Science;

    Abstract : Commercial aviation in the European Community was regulated by a system based on bilateral negotiations until the late 1980s. Regulation ensured that airlines did not compete. The lack of competition conflicted with the aim of the Treaty of Rome of having a common economic market. READ MORE

  3. 3. CFD MODELLING AND EXPERIMENTS ON AERATOR FLOW IN CHUTE SPILLWAYS

    Abstract : A chute spillway is a typical component of large dams for discharging floods. Because of the high water head, the flow velocity in the chute is often in excess of 20 m/s. Consequently, the structure is usually prone to cavitation damages. Flow aeration is evidenced to efficiently eliminate or to mitigate the damages. READ MORE

  4. 4. Dynamic contact stiffness and air-flow related source mechanisms in the tyre/road contact

    Author : Julia Winroth; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Tyre road noise; Tread modelling; Air-flow related source mechanisms; Air pumping; Tyre road contact;

    Abstract : Two aspect of phenomena occurring in, and in the vicinity of the contact patch formed by a tyre rolling on a road are here investigated: 1. A detailed numerical time domain contact model is used to evaluate approximations of the tread response that are commonly embraced in tyre/road interaction models. 2. READ MORE

  5. 5. Impacts of Active Transport on Health : with a focus on physical activity, air pollution, and cardiovascular disease

    Author : Wasif Raza; Johan Nilsson Sommar; Bertil Forsberg; Benno Krachler; Otto Hänninen; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Health impact assessment; Air pollution; Active commuting; Exercise; Interaction. Cardiovascular diseases; Ischemic heart diseases; Stroke; Public health; folkhälsa; Occupational and Environmental Medicine; arbets- och miljömedicin;

    Abstract : Background: There are increasing number of health impact assessment studies investigating the health effects by transferring trips made by motorised transport to active commuting; however, air pollution exposure during active commuting and its impact on health has been less thoroughly assessed. It is furthermore uncertain whether there is any interaction effect between air pollution and physical activity for the risk of cardiovascular diseases. READ MORE
