  1. 1. Loss and recovery of hydrophobicity of polydimethylsiloxane after exposure to electrical discharges

    Author : Henrik Hillborg; KTH; []
    Keywords : silicone rubber; polydimethysiloxane; dydrophobicity; corona; air-plasma; oxygen-plasma; surface characterisation;

    Abstract : Silicone rubber based on polydimethylsiloxane is used ashigh voltage outdoor insulation, due to its ability to preservethe hydrophobic surface properties during service and evenregain hydrophobicity after exposure to electrical discharges.The underlying processes for the hydrophobic recovery arediffusion of low molar mass siloxanes from the bulk to thesurface and reorientation by conformational changes ofmolecules in the surface region. 3. 3. Stabilizers in crosslinked polydimethylsiloxane

    Author : Kamyar Fateh-Alavi; KTH; []
    Keywords : Polymer; Material Science; Polydimethylsiloxane; Stabilizers;

    Abstract : The loss and recovery of the surface hydrophobicity areimportant phenomena when highvoltage insulators, with a shedmaterial composed of polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS), are used. Theloss of hydrophobicity is mostly due to the oxidativecrosslinking which takes place on the PDMS surface duringexposure to electrical discharges, e. g. corona discharges. READ MORE

  4. 4. Mechanical Behaviour of Gas Turbine Coatings

    Author : Mats Eskner; KTH; []
    Keywords : thermal barrier coatings; TBC; small punch test; miniaturised disc bending test; mdbt; spherical indentation; gas turbine coatings; NiAl; NiCoCrAlY; NiCrAlY; mechanical properties;

    Abstract : Coatings are frequently applied on gas turbine components inorder to restrict surface degradation such as corrosion andoxidation of the structural material or to thermally insulatethe structural material against the hot environment, therebyincreasing the efficiency of the turbine. However, in order toobtain accurate lifetime expectancies and performance of thecoatings system it is necessary to have a reliableunderstanding of the mechanical properties and failuremechanisms of the coatings. 5. 5. Thermal Barrier Coatings : Durability Assessment and Life Prediction

    Author : Robert Eriksson; Sten Johansson; Michael Schütze; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Thermal barrier coating (TBC) systems are coating systems containing a metallic bond coat and a ceramic top coat. TBCs are used in gas turbines for thermal insulation and oxidation resistance. READ MORE
