  1. 1. Passive sampling of PAHs and some trace organic compounds in occupational and residential air: needs, evaluation and limits

    Author : Pernilla Bohlin; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : passive air sampling; PAH; POP; occupational environment; residential environment; exposure; stationary air sampling; personal air sampling; PUF; evaluation;

    Abstract : Human exposure to elevated levels of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and trace organic compounds (e.g. PCB, OCP, PBDE) can be related to negative health effects. This raises demands of exposure measurements to be performed. READ MORE

  2. 2. Aerosols of Isocyanates, Amines and Anhydrides : Sampling and Analysis

    Author : Jakob Dahlin; Gunnar Skarping; Robert P. Streicher; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; isocyanate; amine; aminoisocyanate; organic acid anhydride; denuder; impactor; impinger; air sampling; LC-MS; LC-CLND; di-n-butylamine; DBA; thermal degradation; aerosol; particles; TDI; MDI; HDI; ICA; MIC; IPDI; exposure; occupational health; Analytical chemistry; Analytisk kemi; Analytical Chemistry; analytisk kemi;

    Abstract : This thesis presents methods for air sampling and determination of isocyanates, amines, aminoisocyanates and anhydrides. These organic compounds are generated during thermal degradation of polymers such as polyurethane (PUR) or epoxy.Isocyanates, amines and anhydrides are airway irritants known to cause occupational asthma. 3. 3. Isocyanates, Amines and Alkanolamines : Sampling, Chromatography and Detection

    Author : Jakob B. Riddar; Marianne Dalene; Gunnar Skarping; Daniel Karlsson; Håkan Westberg; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Air-sampling; Isocyanates; Aromatic amines; Aliphatic amines; Alkanolamines; Hydrophilic Interaction Liquid Chromatography; Dry Denuder-Filter sampler; Liquid Chromatography–tandem Mass Spectrometry; Polyurethane Foam Extraction; Analytical Chemistry; analytisk kemi;

    Abstract : Isocyanates, aromatic-, aliphatic- and alkanolamines are commonly used in the industry today. Millions of workers in Europe are exposed. The most frequent health symptoms are respiratory and dermal disorder. Due to the health risk most of the compounds in this thesis are regulated by authorities and have occupational exposure limits (OELs). READ MORE

  4. 4. New methods for determination of airborne pollutants : Focus on tetrabromobisphenol A, organophosphate triesters and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons

    Author : Johanna Tollbäck; Ulrika Nilsson; Peter Haglund; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Air sampling; sampling methods; indoor air; SPE; SPME; extraction; dynamic extraction; online coupling; SWE; subcritical water extraction; GC MS; LC MS; organophosphate triesters; PAH; tetrabromobisphenol A; Analytical chemistry; Analytisk kemi; Analytical Chemistry; analytisk kemi;

    Abstract : The work presented in this thesis concerns the development and evaluation of new methods of sampling and analysis of organic pollutants in the indoor and outdoor environment. In Paper I, the development of a new method was reported for the determination of the brominated flame retardant tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBPA) in air using sampling with glass fiber filter and polyurethane foam (PUF), ultrasonic solvent extraction and liquid chromatography coupled to electrospray ionisation mass spectrometry (LC-ESI/MS). 5. 5. Resin acids in commercial products and the work environment of Swedish wood pellets production : Analytical methodology, occurrence and exposure

    Author : Sara Axelsson; Ulrika Nilsson; Kåre Eriksson; Håkan Westberg; Martin Harper; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Rosin; resin acids; HPLC ESI-MS; air sampling; urine samples; wood pellets; wood dust; Analytical Chemistry; analytisk kemi;

    Abstract : The aims of the work this thesis is based upon were to develop convenient analytical procedures for determining resin acids in biological and environmental matrices, and apply them to enhance understanding of the occurrence, exposure to and uptake by exposed individuals of resin acids. Particular focus has been on the workplace environment of the Swedish wood pellets industry. READ MORE
