11. An experimental study of mediators in allergic bronchoconstriction with focus on eicosanoids
Abstract : Mast cells have a central role in the inflammatory response in airways of both atopic and non-atopic asthmatics. The mast cell-derived mediators such as histamine, leukotriene C4 and prostaglandin D2, released upon activation of the cell, produce acute bronchoconstriction that is characteristic of the early asthmatic response (EAR), and contribute to the development of airway inflammation and hyperresponsiveness following the initial reaction. 12. Pathogenesis and treatment of chemical-induced lung injury
Abstract : Inhalation of chemical substances can cause irritation to airways and in high doses acute airway injury. When mice are exposed to the alkylating nitrogen mustard analogue melphalan they develop an acute airway inflammation with a rapid influx of neutrophils to the lungs. READ MORE

13. Mast cell activation in response to osmotic and immunological stimulation with focus on release of eicosanoid mediators
Abstract : Mast cells are important in asthma and other inflammatory diseases. Subjects with asthma have been found to have an increased number of mast cells in their airway smooth muscle and this was related to airway sensitivity. READ MORE

14. The role of nitric oxide in porcine models of asthma and acute lung injury
Abstract : Nitric oxide (NO) is a modulator of many important physiological processes in the body. It is produced endogenously in several cell types by a family of NO synthases (NOS). READ MORE

15. Rehabilitation of adults with asthma : A quantitative and qualitative study
Abstract : The general aim of this study was to evaluate the objective and subjective effects of a comprehensive rehabilitation program for adult asthmatic patients. A combination of quantitative and qualitative methods was used. READ MORE
