11. Vasodilator actions of EDHF and anandamide
Abstract : Vasodilator responses to endothelium-derived hyperpolarizing factor (EDHF) and anandamide in isolated arteries were investigated. A combination of the potassium channel blockers charybdotoxin and apamin inhibits EDHF-mediated relaxations. READ MORE

12. Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) Epidemiological and Pan-airway Aspects
Abstract : Background – Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a major cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. However, there is little information on the prevalence and particularly on the incidence of COPD. READ MORE

13. Regulation of epithelial morphogenesis in Drosophila by the Emp scavenger receptor
Abstract : The respiratory system of Drosophila melanogaster, the trachea, is widely used as a model system to study the development of branched tubular organs. Airway maturation in Drosophila entails a series of sequential events: first, a massive apical secretion of luminal proteins initiates diametric tube expansion, second an endocytic wave removes luminal proteins and finally liquid clearance and gas filling converts the nascent epithelial tubes to a functional respiratory organ. 14. Modulatory role of IL-17 in airway inflammation
Abstract : IL-17 orchestrates the accumulation of neutrophils to sites of infection and the release of microbicidal substances, and therefore plays a critical role in the innate immune response to infection. IL-17 is also involved in certain chronic inflammatory diseases in which dysfunctional control of neutrophil accumulation and turnover constitutes an important pathogenic factor. READ MORE

15. Mucins in normal and diseased airways
Abstract : Mucus glycoproteins (mucins) are the principal constituents of respiratory secretions in health and disease. The increased 'acidity' of mucin producing cells in the bronchitic airways is not reflected in a change of negative charge of bronchitic mucins. READ MORE
