  1. 1. From genes to ecological function in marine bacteria

    Author : Neelam Akram; Jarone Pinhassi; Ian Hewson; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mikrobiologi; Microbiology;

    Abstract : Bacteria in the sea are constantly exposed to environmental challenges (e.g. variations in nutrient concentrations, temperature and light conditions), and therefore appropriate gene expression response strategies to cope with them efficiently are evolved. READ MORE

  2. 2. Towards a realistic hyperon reconstruction with PANDA at FAIR

    Author : Adeel Akram; Karin Schönning; Michael Papenbrock; Carl Nettelblad; Marek Jacewicz; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Hyperon; Extended Target; Tracking; PANDA; FAIR; Physics with specialization in Nuclear Physics; Fysik med inriktning mot kärnfysik;

    Abstract : The goal of the PANDA (anti-Proton ANnihilation at DArmstadt) experiment at FAIR (Facility for Anti-proton and Ion Research) is to study strong interactions in the confinement domain. In PANDA, a continuous beam of anti-protons () will impinge on a fixed hydrogen (p) target inside the High Energy Storage Ring (HESR), a feature intended to attain high interaction rates for various physics studies e. 4. 4. Maternal and neonatal anthropometry and growth factor expression and apoptosis in human placenta : a comparison between two populations

    Author : Shahzad Akram; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The insulin-like growth factors (IGFs), IGF-binding proteins (IGFBPs), and IGFBP proteases, are key endocrine regulators of somatic growth and cellular proliferation. IGFs are involved in growth both pre- and postnatally. READ MORE

  5. 5. Superabsorbent Polymers from the Cell Wall of Zygomycetes Fungi

    Author : Akram Zamani; Högskolan i Borås; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; chitosan; cell wall; chitin; polyphosphates; dilute sulfuric acid; zygomycetes fungi;

    Abstract : The present thesis presents new renewable, antimicrobial and biodegradable superabsorbent polymers (SAPs), produced from the cell wall of zygomycetes fungi. The cell wall was characterized and chitosan, being one of the most important ingredients, was extracted, purified, and converted to SAP for use in disposable personal care products designed for absorption of different body fluids.
