  1. 16. Chemo-enzymatic cascades for the synthesis of chiral high-value chemicals

    Author : Lisa Marx; Per Berglund; Sabine Flitsch; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : Chiral amines are frequent in today´s top selling pharmaceuticals. Classical organic synthesis of pharmaceuticals is often work intensive involving many synthesis steps, the use of protection group chemistry, heavy metal catalysts and chiral crystallization techniques. READ MORE

  2. 17. Organic Heavy Group 14 Element Compounds : A Study of Their Chemical Bonding Properties Directed Towards Applications as Molecular Wires and in Synthesis

    Author : Julius Tibbelin; Henrik Ottosson; Christoph Marschner; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Silicon; Group 14 Elements; Silenes; Conjugation; Chemical Bonding; Electronic Structure; Protecting Group Chemistry; Physical organic chemistry; Fysikalisk organisk kemi; Chemistry with specialization in Organic Chemistry; Kemi med inriktning mot organisk kemi;

    Abstract : The research described herein includes synthesis, spectroscopy, and quantum chemical calculations with focus on the characteristic properties of compounds with bonds between carbon and the heavier Group 14 elements.The chapters based on the first four papers concern σ- and σ/π-conjugated compounds, although the focus of the first paper is on ring strain of bicyclo[1. 3. 18. Characterization of stress-inducible short-chain dehydrogenases/reductases (SDR) in plants : study of a novel small protein family from Pisum sativum (pea)

    Author : Nikolai Scherbak; Åke Strid; Jan Rydström; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cell biology; Biology; Biologi; Biology; Biologi;

    Abstract : In pea (Pisum sativum), the short-chain alcohol dehydrogenase-like protein (SAD) gene family consists of at least three members (SAD-A, -B, and -C). The SAD genes are transiently expressed in plants after short exposures to ultraviolet-B radiation, which in turn leads to formation of SAD protein in leaf and stem tissue upon prolonged irradiation. 4. 19. Challenges of studying complex community health promotion programmes : experiences from Stockholm diabetes prevention programme

    Author : Camilla Andersson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Community intervention; diabetes prevention; implementation; intersectoral participation; monitoring; planning models; programme theory; the spider-web methodology.;

    Abstract : The main objective of this thesis focused on how to capture the complexity in the implementation of a community health promotion programme. The thesis is based on experiences of Stockholm diabetes prevention programme (SDPP), which was implemented in 1995-2004 in three municipalities, and include documentation within the programme, annual local governmental reports, local news cuttings, questionnaires and group discussions with the local steering committees members. 5. 20. Fatty Acyl Reductases and Fatty Acyl Desaturases. Deciphering the biosynthesis of species-specific moth female sex pheromones from common fatty acids

    Author : Åsa Hagström; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Moth; pheromone; insect; evolution; fatty acyl desaturase; fatty acyl reductase; endoplasmic reticulum; fatty acid biosynthesis; GFP; heterologous expression; phylogeny; cell factory; lepidoptera;

    Abstract : Moths (Lepidoptera) are dependent on female produced pheromones, chemical signals, for attracting a mate. Pheromones are most commonly made up by saturated and/or unsaturated fatty acid derived alcohols, acetates, and/or aldehydes that are produced by a set of enzymes in the female pheromone gland.
