1. Transglycosylation catalyzed by β-mannanases : Molecular aspects relevant for enzymatic synthesis
Abstract : β-Mannanases are a major type of enzyme involved in the hydrolysis and modification of β-mannans, a hemicellulose present in high amounts in e.g. softwoods such as spruce. The β-mannanases studied in this thesis belong to glycoside hydrolase (GH) families GH5 and GH26. READ MORE

2. Determination of Fat-Soluble Vitamins in Foods Based on Supercritical Fluid Extraction
Abstract : Sample clean-up methodologies based on supercritical fluid extraction (SFE) have been developed for determination of fat-soluble vitamins in foods. This thesis focuses on method development, stressing important issues concerning sample pre-treatment, extraction conditions and collection parameters. READ MORE

3. Enzymatic Synthesis of Alkyl Glycosides. New Applications for Glycoside Hydrolases
Abstract : The environmental problems caused by human interventions, such as the consumption of non-renewable resources and the emission of greenhouse gases are well-recognised. Calls have been made for immediate measures to develop more sustainable society worldwide. READ MORE

4. Lipase-Catalysed Lipid Modifications in Supercritical Carbon Dioxide
Abstract : The production of ethyl esters (EE) from ethanol and cod-liver oil by an immobilised lipase in supercritical carbon dioxide (SCCO2) is described. This reaction results in a complex mixture of lipid components consisting of triglycerides, diglycerides, monoglycerides and ethyl esters. READ MORE

5. Exploring beta-mannan acting glycosidase families in hydrolysis and mannosyl transfer
Abstract : The thesis revolves around the study of glycoside hydrolases (GH), specifically GH5 β-mannanases and GH36 α-galactosidase (I-III), as well as a GH130 mannoside phosphorylase (I, IV). These enzymes are investigated for their actions on and conversion of hemicellulosic β-mannan, including food-grade galactomannan and softwood galactoglucomannan, along with manno-oligosaccharides (MOS) derived from such polymers.
