  1. 1. Greater trochanteric pain after total hip arthroplasty : incidence, clinical outcome, associated factors, tenderness evaluation with algometer and a new surgical treatment

    Author : Arkan Sam Sayed-Noor; Lars Weidenhielm; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : greater trochanteric pain; total hip arthroplasty; leg length discrepancy; algometer; pressure-pain threshold; ilio-tibial band; lengthening; Orthopaedics; ortopedi;

    Abstract : Greater trochanteric pain (GTP) is a regional pain syndrome characterized by lateral hip pain and tenderness. Its incidence after total hip arthroplasty (THA) is variable. READ MORE

  2. 2. Muscle Tenderness in Women

    Author : Ann Persson; Neurokirurgi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Reliability.; Electronic algometer; Pain threshold; Pain measurement; Shoulder pain; Tenderness; Muscle; Nociception; Central processing; Physical medicine; kinesitherapy; revalidation; rehabilitation; Rehabilitering medicinsk och social ;

    Abstract : Longstanding pain experienced from the musculoskeletal system is reported by one third of the Swedish population. The underlying mechanisms are not known in the majority of cases. READ MORE

  3. 3. The Hand in Manual Work - Physiological and Psychophysical studies

    Author : Lena Johansson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; hand; pressure; muscle activity; laser doppler flowmeter; perception; manual work; hand tool; drilling machine; cutaneous blood flow; wrist orthosis;

    Abstract : This thesis focuses on the hand in manual work. In particular, we have studied what happens to skin and muscles when gripping a hand tool. Different aspects of gripping that will be discussed are: pressure on the hand, effects on the skin blood flow, muscle activity and the use of wrist orthoses. READ MORE

  4. 4. The role of pain modulation in non-suicidal self-injury

    Author : Jens Fust; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Individuals with non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) behavior tend to report feeling little or no pain when they self-injure. Moreover, in laboratory studies the NSSI population tends to demonstrate reduced sensitivity to painful stimuli. There is reason to believe that hypoalgesia could be a risk factor for developing and maintaining NSSI. READ MORE

  5. 5. Local and systemic inflammatory mediators and their relation to pressure-pain threshold and pain of the temporomandibular joint

    Author : Lars Fredriksson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The first aim of this investigation was to investigate the validity of TMJ pressure-pain threshold for assessment of pain conditions of inflammatory nature in the TMJ. Pressure-pain threshold was recorded from the palpable lateral pole of the TMJ condyle with a hand-held electronic pressure algometer (Somedic Production AB, Sollentuna, Sweden). READ MORE
