  1. 1. Characterisation of Fuels and Fly Ashes from Co-Combustion of Biofuels and Waste Fuels in a Fluidised Bed Boiler. A Phosphorus and Alkali Perspective

    Author : Anita Pettersson; Högskolan i Borås; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; phosphorus recovery; co-combustion; fluidised bed combustion; olivine; Biofuels; zeolites; fertiliser; extraction; refuse derived fuels; kaolin; alkali; sulphur; ash; municipal sewage sludge;

    Abstract : In the efforts to create sustainable production of heat and power and to reduce the net CO2 emissions to the atmosphere, alternative fuels are today being utilised. These fuels are, for example, biofuels and waste derived fuels such as different residues from the agricultural sector and the pulp and paper industry, municipal sewage sludge and municipal sorted solid waste. 2. 2. Modification of fluff pulp fibres: Cross-linking and alkali extraction

    Author : Kristoffer Lund; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; fibre network; dry defibration; network strength; fluff pulp; Absorption; cross-linking; alkali extraction; kraft pulp;

    Abstract : Fluff pulp has been one of the key components of hygienic products, such as diapers, for many years. Fluff pulp is dry defibrated and air-laid into the absorption core of diapers. The introduction of superabsorbent polymers (SAPs) in the 1980s decreased the dependence on fluff pulp, as the SAPs became the main absorbing material. READ MORE

  3. 3. Extraction of polymeric rapeseed straw hemicelluloses for renewable films

    Author : Antonia Svärd; Ulrica Edlund; Elisabet Sjöholm; Emma Strömberg; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; rapeseed straw canola straw; hemicellulose; xylan; mannan; extraction; characterization; severity factor; hemicellulose film; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Abstract : Polymeric hemicelluloses with high molecular weight were extracted from rapeseed straw with a straight forward hydrothermal extraction method, evaluated and refined by statistical factorial screening design and ‘severity factor’ analysis. The influence of the extraction conditions, time, temperature and pH of the extraction liquid, on the composition, molecular weight, yield and properties was unveiled. READ MORE

  4. 4. Strategies for Monitoring of Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals in Aquatic Environment

    Author : Pär Hallgren; Centrum för analys och syntes; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; vitellogenin; Endocrine disruption; alkali-labile phosphate; Carassius carassius; steroid hormones; Oncorhynchus mykiss; membrane exraction; supercritical fluid extraction; GC;

    Abstract : The protein biomarker vitellogenin in fish is discussed alongside alterative strategies for monitoring of endocrine disrupting chemicals. The first objective was to find a cheap, robust and generic method for the quantification of vitellogenin. READ MORE

  5. 5. Degradation of mullite based materials by alkali containing slags

    Author : Jesper Stjernberg; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Materialteknik; Engineering Materials;

    Abstract : Iron is one of the most important resources that can be found in the lithosphere; 90 % of all metal ores extracted are iron ore. Many steps are included in the extraction from iron ore to metallic iron, where the processes vary between different producers. Iron ore pellets, are a prepared burden material for ironmaking in the blast furnace. READ MORE
