  2. 2. Genetic Variability in Human Bone Phenotypes The Vitamin D Receptor Gene and the Estrogen Receptor-α Cofactor RIZ Gene

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Elin Grundberg; Andreas Kindmark; Östen Ljunggren; Helena Brändström; André G. Uitterlinden; [2006]
    Keywords : Medicine; Bone mineral density; candidate gene approach; polymorphism; the vitamin D receptor; the estrogen receptor α; RIZ1; cofactor; allelic imbalance; Medicin;

    Abstract : Important candidate genes to human bone phenotypes are those involved in the regulation of hormonal action, such as the vitamin D receptor (VDR) and the estrogen receptor-α (ERα) genes and their cofactors. RIZ1 is a specific ERα cofactor proved to strongly enhance the function of the ERα. READ MORE

  3. 3. Computational and experimental approaches to regulatory genetic variation

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Bioteknologi

    Author : Malin Andersen; Jacob Odeberg; John Peden; [2007]

    Abstract : Genetic variation is a strong risk factor for many human diseases, including diabetes, cancer, cardiovascular disease, depression, autoimmunity and asthma. Most of the disease genes identified so far alter the amino acid sequences of encoded proteins. READ MORE

  4. 4. Using Minisequencing Technology for Analysing Genetic Variation in DNA and RNA

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Mona Fredriksson; Ann-Christine Syvänen; Aarno Palotie; [2005]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Molecular medicine; microarray; minisequencing; molecular medicine; single nucleotide polymorphism; stem cell transplantation; whole genome amplification; allelic imbalance; alternative splicing; Molekylärmedicin; MEDICINE Dermatology and venerology; clinical genetics; internal medicine Internal medicine Molecular medicine genetics and pathology ; MEDICIN Dermatologi och venerologi; klinisk genetik; invärtesmedicin Invärtesmedicin Molekylär medicin genetik och patologi ;

    Abstract : In this thesis, the four-color fluorescence tag-microarray minisequencing system pioneered by our group was further developed and applied for analysing genetic variation in human DNA and RNA. A SNP marker panel representing different chromosomal regions was established and used for identification of informative SNP markers for monitoring chimerism after stem cell transplantation (SCT). 5. 5. Analyses of Rat Tumor Models for DMBA-induced Fibrosarcoma and Spontaneous Endometrial Carcinoma

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Emma Samuelson; Göteborgs universitet.; Gothenburg University.; [2008]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; cancer; rat models;

    Abstract : Cancer is a disease of genes. Uncontrolled cell growth is the outcome from genetic as well as epigenetic alterations, resulting in a tumor cell mass that harbors a cancer genome. During progression, the tumor acquires self-dependence and the ability to invade other tissues and metastasize. READ MORE
