  2. 2. Soil Degradation of Raised-beds on Orchards in the Mekong Delta Field and Laboratory Methods

    Author : Quang Pham Van; Per-Erik Jansson; Khoa Le Van; Ingmar Messing; KTH; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; citrus orchards; nutrient; soil fertility; soil strength; soil degradation; alluvial soil; Mekong delta;

    Abstract : Soil degradation is a complex process which may occur anywhere and at any time. It directly affects the physical, chemical and biological processes within the soil profile. Soil degradation can either be as a result of natural hazards or due to manmade actions, such as mismanagement on cropping patterns, soil preparation and cultivation practices. READ MORE

  3. 3. Groundwater Vulnerability Assessment to pollution in Different Soil and Rock Materials

    Author : Twana Abdullah; Nadhir Al-Ansari; Sven Knutsson; Jan Laue; Sabbar Alqaisi; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Groundwater; Vulnerability; DRASTIC; VLDA; Modification; Soil Mechanics; Geoteknik;

    Abstract : The augmentation of human population regularly corresponds with change in the land cover, including expansion of urban areas, which imposes increasing the available amount of domestic and drinking water. The study area, Halabja-Saidsadiq Basin, is situated in the Northeast of Iraq and is one of the major groundwater sources of the region. READ MORE

  4. 4. Landscape partitioning and burial processes of soil organic carbon in contrasting areas of continuous permafrost

    Author : Juri Palmtag; Peter Kuhry; Gustaf Hugelius; Stephan Gruber; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; soil organic carbon; total nitrogen; permafrost; cryoturbation; geomorphology; land cover classification; slope processes; texture; upscaling; carbon nitrogen ratio; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Abstract : Recent studies have shown that permafrost soils in the northern circumpolar region store almost twice as much carbon as the atmosphere. Since soil organic carbon (SOC) pools have large regional and landscape-level variability, detailed SOC inventories from across the northern permafrost region are needed to assess potential remobilization of SOC with permafrost degradation and to quantify the permafrost carbon-climate feedback on global warming. 5. 5. Potential Use of Aquifer Thermal Energy Storage System in Arid Regions

    Author : Qais Al-Madhlom; Jan Laue; Nadhir Al-Ansari; Sabbar Abdullah Saleh; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Aquifer thermal energy storage system; ATES; site selection; seepage velocity; aquifer vulnerability; DRASTIC; arid regions; ArcMap GIS; Soil Mechanics; Geoteknik;

    Abstract : After the Oil Crises in 1973, which meant higher energy costs, the world started to look for other sources of energy. This led to the development of renewable energy techniques. Because of the intermittent nature of renewable energy, storage systems were also developed. READ MORE
