  1. 1. Structure and distribution of alpha-1-microglobulin proteins

    Author : Tord Berggård; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Proteins; lysine; chromophore; placenta; immunohistochemistry; albumin; prothrombin; plasma; bikunin; lipocalin; alpha-1-microglobulin; protein HC; enzymology; Proteiner; enzymologi;

    Abstract : This thesis describes studies of the structure and tissue distribution of alpha-1-microglobulin (a1-m), a member of the lipocalin protein superfamily with immunosuppressive properies. It was shown that a1-m appears in human plasma in five major forms. READ MORE

  2. 2. Alpha-1-microglobulin, heme-binding protein, reductase and antioxidant

    Author : Maria Allhorn; Infektionsmedicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; reduction; inflammation; chronic ulcers; collagen; low density lipoproteins; Medicin människa och djur ; Medicine human and vertebrates ; antioxidation; heme; hemoglobin; alpha-1-microglobulin; lipocalin;

    Abstract : This thesis describes structural and functional studies of alpha-1-microglobulin (a1m), a 26 kDa plasma and tissue protein that is evolutionarily well-conserved and belongs to the lipocalin superfamily. The lipocalins are polypeptides of 160-190-amino acids that are folded into an 8-stranded beta-barrel forming a pocket with a hydrophobic interior. READ MORE

  3. 3. Urinary Clara cell protein and alpha 1-microglobulin – biomarkers of changes in kidney and airway function

    Author : Lena Andersson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : biomarker; Clara cell 16 kDa protein CC16 ; alpha 1-microglobulin A1M ; ambient air pollution; renal function; pyelonephritis; children;

    Abstract : Validated biomarkers are useful tools for screening large populations. The benefit of screening may be improved risk assessment or early indications of adverse effects before detection or onset of symptoms. READ MORE

  4. 4. Therapeutic opportunities of alpha-1-microglobulin A study in placenta, blood, skin and eye

    Author : Martin Cederlund; Infektionsmedicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; reactive oxygen species; hemoglobin; myeloperoxidase; oxidative stress; α1-microglobulin;

    Abstract : This thesis describes functional studies of the human protein alpha-1-microglobulin (A1M), with the aim of exploring its usefulness as a therapeutic agent in diseases where oxidative stress is a prominent feature. A1M is a 26 kDa plasma and tissue protein with reductase activity and radical- and heme-binding antioxidative functions. READ MORE

  5. 5. Cerebral intraventricular hemorrhage and post-hemorrhagic ventricular dilatation in preterm infants: new mechanistic insights and potential treatment strategies

    Author : Olga Romantsik; Lund Pediatrik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Prematurity; Intraventricular hemorrhage; Post-hemorrhagic ventricular dilatation; White matter injury; Gray matter injury; Preterm rabbits; Extracellular hemoglobin; a-1-microglobulin; animal IVH models; High frequency ultrasound; MRI; corticogenesis;

    Abstract : Intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH) is one of the major co-morbidities of premature birth associated with post-hemorrhagic ventricular dilatation (PHVD) development, long-term neurodevelopmental impairment, behavioral problems, special educational needs, and dependency on social security.Hypothesis and aims: We believe that extravasated blood and further release of extracellular hemoglobin (Hb) are crucial in brain injury following IVH and consequent development of PHVD.
