  1. 1. Asymmetric Synthesis of C-Glycosylated Amino Acids : Incorporation in Collagen Glycopeptides and Evaluation in a Model for Rheumatoid Arthritis

    Author : Tomas Gustafsson; Jan Kihlberg; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Total synthesis; stereoselective synthesis; chiral glycine templates; Evan’s alkylation; asymmetric hydrogenation; alpha-amino acid synthesis; C-glycoside; rheumatoid arthritis; MHC; T cell; Organic chemistry; Organisk kemi;

    Abstract : This thesis describes stereoselective syntheses of four amino acids, three of which are C-glycosidic analogues of glycosylated amino acids. The overall goal of the project was to probe the interactions between MHC molecules, glycopeptide antigens and T cell receptors, that are essential for development of collagen induced arthritis. 2. 2. Antigens derived from the mucin MUC1 : Solution and solid-phase synthesis of saccharides, peptides and glycopeptides

    Author : Maciej Pudelko; Mikael Elofsson; Fredrik Almqvist; Thisbe K. Lindhorst; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Lactones; glycopeptides; signal peptide; neoglycolipid arrays; solid-phase synthesis; MUC1; gel-phase 19F NMR spectroscopy; fluorinated alpha-amino protective group; Organic chemistry; Organisk kemi;

    Abstract : Mucin is a term used to describe a large family of heavily glycosylated proteins which are present on the surfaces of secretory epithelial cells and are overexpressed by many carcinomas. Membrane-bound mucin MUC1 is of special interest. Its backbone consists of repeating units of twenty amino acids with five potential glycosylation sites. READ MORE

  3. 3. Development of a novel methodology for the synthesis of oligonucleo-peptide conjugates

    Author : Simone Zaramella; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Antisense; Oligonucleotide-peptide conjugates; Solid-phase synthesis; Histidine; Protecting groups.;

    Abstract : Peptide-oligonucleotide conjugates constitute a new class of antisense molecules that exhibit improved biological activity over standard oligonucleotide analogues. Currently, these oligomeric bioconjugates are prepared by either solution- or solid-phase techniques. READ MORE

  4. 4. Synthesis of indole and oxindole derivates incorporating pyrrolidino, pyrrolo or imidazolo moieties

    Author : Stanley Rehn; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Isatin; three-component reaction; a-amino acid; azomethine ylide; pyrrolidino-3-spiro-3?-oxindole derivatives; 3-methyleneoxindole derivatives; pyrroloquinolone; TosMIC; ß-carboline; tosylimine; pyrrole; keto-enol tautomerism; indolopyran-2-one; imidazole; benzylimine; tetrahydroindole;

    Abstract : The focus of this thesis is on the synthesis of oxindole- and indole-derivatives incorporating pyrrolidins, pyrroles or imidazoles moieties. Pyrrolidino-2-spiro-3'-oxindole derivatives have been prepared in high yielding three-component reactions between isatin, alpha-amino acid derivatives, and suitable dipolarophiles. READ MORE
