  1. 1. Fuel and fly: adaptations to endurance exercise in migrating birds

    Author : Anders Kvist; Bröstcancer-genetik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; water balance; flight power; phenotypic flexibility; energy assimilation; basal metabolism; Animal ecology; Djurekologi;

    Abstract : Birds on migration alternate between consuming fuel stores during flights and accumulating fuel stores during stopovers. This thesis highlights some of the ways in which migrating birds have adapted to the different demands of fuelling and flight. Most of the time on migration is spent at stopover sites accumulating fuel stores. READ MORE

  2. 2. Particulate Formation in GDI Engines

    Author : Sreelekha Etikyala; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; PM; Alternate fuels; Gasoline Direct Injection; internal combustion engines; Particulate Number; Load transients;

    Abstract : The need to comply with stringent emission regulations while improving fuel economy and reducing criteria pollutant emissions from transportation presents a major challenge in the design of gasoline Direct Injection (DI) engines because of the adverse effects of ultrafine Particulate Number (PN) emissions on human health and other environmental concerns. With upcoming advances in vehicle electrification, it may be the case that electric vehicles completely replace all current vehicles powered by internal combustion engines ensuring zero emissions. 3. 3. Particulate Formation in Gasoline Direct Injection Engines

    Author : Sreelekha Etikyala; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; PM; Volatileorganic compounds; Gasoline Direct Injection; Particulate Number; Alternate fuels;

    Abstract : Gasoline direct injection (GDI) engines are facing a great challenge because of the need to comply with increasingly stringent emission regulations while improving fuel economy. GDI engines are popularly known for their high fuel efficiency (by the standards of gasoline engines) and low emissions, enabling higher compression ratios and thus increased volumetric efficiency. 4. 4. Actomyosin in biocomputation

    Author : Aseem Salhotra; Alf Månsson; Henry Hess; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; biocomputation; molecular motors; 3-SAT; surface chemistry; actomyosin; actin; myosin II; heavy meromyosin; myosin XI; engineered myosin; in vitro motility assay; nanofabrication; alternate computing; network based biocomputation; protein-surface interaction; longevity; prolongation; surface recycling; affinity purification; blocking actin; Bioteknik; Biotechnology; Biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Abstract : There exist complex mathematical problems that are important in real world applications such as weather prediction, molecular modelling, network route optimization and more. In general, such problems are solved using supercomputers with higher computing efficiency but this also consumes high energy along with high production and maintenance cost. READ MORE

  5. 5. EIA practice : examples of cumulative effects and final disposal of spent nuclear fuel

    Author : Antoienette Wärnbäck; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : This thesis is about Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) practice in Sweden. Impact Assessment (IA) is expected to play a crucial role in enabling democratic and enlightened decision making. EIA practice seems however not to be in accordance with best IA practice norms and legislation in many countries. READ MORE
