  1. 21. Novel Insights into the Oxidation of High Temperature Alloys - The Role of Environment, Microstructure and Reactive elements

    Author : Nooshin Mortazavi Seyedeh; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; reactive elements; nitridation; High temperature materials; nitrides; alumina; hydrides; microstructure; chromia; oxidation;

    Abstract : The properties of materials can be deteriorated, when they react with an environment at high temperature and form various types of corrosion products, such as oxides and nitrides. In order to perform successfully at elevated temperatures, all these materials are required to be protected by a slow-growing, continuous and adherent surface oxide layer. READ MORE

  2. 22. Nanofeatures of Biomaterials and their Impact on the Inflammatory Response

    Author : Shiuli Pujari-Palmer; Marjam Ott; Håkan Engqvist; Matteo Santin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Nanofeatures; alumina; hydroxyapatite; inflammation; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot materialvetenskap; Engineering Science with specialization in Materials Science;

    Abstract : Nanomaterials offer an advantage over traditional biomaterials since cells naturally communicate via nanoscale interactions. The extracellular matrix, for example, modulates adhesion and cellular functions via nanoscale features. READ MORE

  3. 23. Ionic Transport in Metal Oxides Studied in situ by Impedance Spectroscopy and Cyclic Voltammetry

    Author : Johan Öijerholm; Jinshan Pan; Jürgen Fleig; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ionic transport; alumina; zirconia; in situ impedance spectroscopy; molecular dynamics; high temperature cyclic voltammetry; spark plasma sintering; initial oxidation; FeCrAl alloy; grain size; space charge model.; Electrochemistry; Elektrokemi;

    Abstract : Ionic transport in metal oxides is crucial for the functioning of a broad range of different components, such as heat resistant alloys designed for high temperature applications and oxide electrolytes in solid oxide fuel cells. This thesis presents results from in situ electrochemical studies of properties related to ionic transport in metal oxides that are important for their applications as protective oxides and ionic conductors. 4. 24. Surface Studies of Model Systems relevant for Pd and Ag Catalysts

    Author : Natalia Martin; Synkrotronljusfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; High Pressure X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy; X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy; alumina; Ag; NiAl; Pd; catalysis; model system; Surface X-ray Diffraction; Low Energy Electron Diffraction; Scanning Tunneling Microscopy; Fysicumarkivet A:2014:Martin;

    Abstract : This PhD thesis reports on investigations of the atomic scale structure of model catalysts relevant for the catalytic oxidation of CO and methane over Pd, and NOx reduction over silver-alumina, important reactions in automotive catalysts. By using complementary experimental techniques such as X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy, High Pressure X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy, Surface X-ray Diffraction, Low Energy Electron Diffraction, Infrared Spectroscopy, and Scanning Tunneling Microscopy, combined with theoretical calculations, the work presented in this thesis aims at an atomistic characterization of the active sites for silver-alumina and Pd model catalysts which may help to the design of new and improved catalysts.
