  1. 11. Galactic archaeology with metal-poor stars

    Author : Thomas Nordlander; Andreas J. Korn; Karin Lind; Ulrike Heiter; David L. Lambert; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; stars: abundances; radiative transfer; stars: Population II; stars: Population III;

    Abstract : The chemical fingerprints of old, metal-poor stars can be used to unravel the events of the newborn Universe and help us understand the properties of the first stars and star clusters. The study of nearby stars to infer properties in the distant past is often referred to as Galactic archaeology. READ MORE

  2. 12. Structural and Spectroscopic Studies of Solvated Metal Ions

    Author : Alireza Abbasi; Magnus Sandström; Ernö Brucher; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Coordination; Solvation; X-ray diffraction; EXAFS; IR; Raman; Normal coordinate analysis; trivalent metal ions; dmso; triflate; hydration; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Abstract : Crystallographic and spectroscopic studies have been performed of structures, coordination and chemical bonding for series of trivalent metal ions solvated by two oxygen-coordinating solvents, water and dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO). The hydrated scandium(III) and lanthanoid(III) ions, La to Lu, are surrounded by tricapped trigonal prisms of aqua ligands in the isomorphous series of trifluoromethanesulfonates, [M(H2O)n](CF3SO3)3. 3. 13. Biotic Ligand model : A tool for risk assessment of metals in Scandinavian fresh waters?

    Author : Sabina Hoppe; Magnus Breitholtz; Jon-Petter Gustafsson; Karel De Schamphelaere; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; BLM; Soft freshwaters; Sweden; Cu; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Abstract : Products from iron and copper mining are among Sweden’s top exports. However, as the metals are excavated, they often end up in the aquatic environment where they can cause toxicity. READ MORE

  4. 14. Atomic Electrons as Sensitive Probes of Nuclear Properties and Astrophysical Plasma Environments : A Computational Approach

    Author : Asimina Papoulia; Matematisk fysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fysicumarkivet A:2021:Papoulia; Computational atomic structure; Relativistic atomic theory; Transition probabilities; Abundance analysis; Landé g-factors; Hyperfine structure; Nuclear quadrupole moments; Isotope shift; Field shift; Nuclear deformation;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with the relativistic modeling of atoms and ions. To interpret the stellar spectra and gain more insight from astrophysical observations, the underlying processes that generate the spectra need to be well understood and described. READ MORE

  5. 15. Capturing Swedish Industry Transition towards Carbon Neutrality in a National Energy System Model

    Author : Erik Sandberg; Andrea Toffolo; Anna Krook-Riekkola; Åsa Lindman; Isabela Butnar; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Energiteknik; Energy Engineering;

    Abstract : Industry is responsible for approximately 30 % of the total emissions of greenhouse gases, both globally and in Sweden. Given the climate targets set out in the Paris agreement, the industry is facing a challenging future, requiring effective policies to aid the transition. READ MORE
