  1. 1. Aspects of maxillary sinus reconstruction with endosseous implants

    Author : John Eric Blomqvist; Lunds universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Odontologi; Odontology; stomatology; sinus inlay bone augmentation.; osteomorphometry; osteometry; maxillary sinus reconstruction; maxilla; bone graft; Alveolar bone loss; dental implants; implant position; bone;

    Abstract : This study of maxillary sinus reconstruction in conjunction with insertion of endosseous implants included 99 patients. Two separate surgical methods were applied; a one-staged strategy (n=49) and a two-staged strategy (n=50). The aims were to compare two different strategies concerning implant and prosthetic construction survival. READ MORE

  2. 2. Bone tissue regeneration indento-alveolar surgery : clinical and experimental studies on biomaterials and bone graft substitutes

    Author : Annika Sahlin-Platt; Maria Ransjö; Christer Dahlin; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biomaterials; bone graft substitutes; compomer; root end filling; Bio-Oss; Bioactive glass 45S5; Algipore; SEM EDAX; ICP-OES; Cryo-XPS;

    Abstract : Pathological processes in the alveolar and facial bones can lead to bone loss that may not heal with complete regeneration. Biomaterials can be used to facilitate the healing process and/or as a bone substitute, but the mechanisms are not fully understood. READ MORE

  3. 3. On tissue reactions to and resorption of bone substitutes

    Author : Arne Mordenfeld; Malmö högskola; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; bone graft; bone substitutes; sinus floor augmentation; lateral ridge augmentation;

    Abstract : Background: The increasing need for bone grafting procedures inimplant dentistry and the introduction of a variety of bone substitutesrequire a deeper understanding of the biological response and shortandlong-term behaviour of these materials to choose the adequategraft and surgical procedure for the intended clinical application.Aims: The overall aim was to clinically and histologically studythe short- and long-term tissue reactions to and resorption of bonesubstitutes after bone augmentation. 5. 5. Cellular and molecular responses of periodontal connective tissue cells to Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans cytolethal distending toxin

    Author : Georgios N. Belibasakis; Sotirios Kalfas; Ulf H. Lerner; Anders Johansson; Veli-Jukka Uitto; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : Medical sciences; Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans; cytolethal distending toxin; periodontal connective tissue cells; localized aggressive periodontitis; growth arrest; bone resorption; receptor activator of NF-κB ligand; osteoprotegerin; pro-inflammatory cytokines; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; odontologi; Odontology;

    Abstract : Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans is present in elevated proportions and numbers in dental bacterial biofilms of patients with localized aggressive periodontitis. This variant of periodontal disease, occurring in adolescents and young adults, is characterized by rapid and severe destruction of the connective tissues and bone supporting the teeth, eventually culminating in tooth loss.
