  1. 1. ZrB2 Thin Films : Growth and Characterization

    Author : Lina Tengdelius; Hans Högberg; Urban Forsberg; Gregory S. Girolami; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP;

    Abstract : Zirconium diboride, ZrB2, is a ceramic material with bulk properties such as high melting point (3245 °C), high hardness (23 GPa), and low resistivity (~8 μΩcm). Thin film growth of ZrB2 using physical vapor deposition has suffered from problems with films deviating from stoichiometry and with high levels of contaminants, especially high oxygen content. 2. 2. Synthesis and Characterization of Amorphous Carbide-based Thin Films

    Author : Matilda Folkenant; Ulf Jansson; Erik Lewin; Paul Mayrhofer; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Amorphous; coating; thin film; nanocomposite; sputter deposition; PVD; XPS; SEM; TEM; electrical properties; mechanical properties;

    Abstract : In this thesis, research on synthesis, structure and characterization of amorphous carbide-based thin films is presented. Crystalline and nanocomposite carbide films can exhibit properties such as high electrical conductivity, high hardness and low friction and wear. READ MORE

  3. 3. Amorphous Magnetic Materials : A Versatile Foundation for Tomorrow’s Applications

    Author : Sebastian George; Gabriella Andersson; Björgvin Hjörvarsson; Fridrik Magnus; Elizabeth Blackburn; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Amorphous; Magnetism; Rare Earth; Transition Metal; RE-TM; Thin Film; TbCo; SmCo; FeZr; CoFeZr;

    Abstract : Amorphous magnetic materials exhibit a number of key differentiating properties with respect to crystalline magnets. In some cases, the differences may simply be in the values of macroscopic properties such as saturation magnetization, coercivity, Curie temperature, and electrical conductivity. READ MORE

  4. 4. Uncovering Magnetic Order in Nanostructured Disordered Materials : A Study of Amorphous Magnetic Layered Structures

    Author : Panagiotis Korelis; Björgvin Hjörvarsson; Gabriella Andersson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Amorphous Materials; Magnetism; Amorphous Magnetism; Magnetic Measurements; Thin Films; Multilayers; Thin Film Deposition; Sputtering; FeZr Alloys; AlZr Alloys; X-ray Diffraction; Rutherford Backscattering Spectrometry; Physics with spec. in Atomic; Molecular and Condensed Matter Physics; Fysik med inriktning mot atom- molekyl- och kondenserande materiens fysik;

    Abstract : The scope of this thesis is the study of the interplay between structure and magnetism in amorphous materials. The investigations focus on the growth of amorphous layers and the study of the influence of structural disorder and reduced physical extension on the magnetic properties of thin films and multilayers. 5. 5. Nanostructured carbon-based thin films : prediction and design

    Author : Cecilia Goyenola; Gueorgui K. Gueorguiev; Lars Hultman; Sven Stafström; Yury Gogotsi; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; carbon; carbon-based; thin films; fullerene-like; modeling; dft;

    Abstract : Carbon-based thin films are a vast group of materials of great technological importance. Thanks to the different bonding options for carbon, a large variety of structures (from amorphous to nanostructured) can be achieved in the process of film synthesis. READ MORE
