  1. 1. Molecular Genetic Studies on Prostate and Penile Cancer

    Author : Patiyan Andersson; Peter Söderkvist; Mattias Höglund; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Prostate cancer; IRS1; penile cancer; hTERT; FHIT; PIK3CA; HRAS; KRAS; NRAS; BRAF; Oncology; Onkologi;

    Abstract : This thesis is comprised of two parts. In the first part we study the influence of four frequently disputed genes on the susceptibility for developing prostate cancer, and in the second part we attempt to establish a basic understanding of the molecular genetic events in penile cancer. 2. 2. A study of the transition from premalignancy to clinical prostate cancer

    Author : Alexander Valdman; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Prostate cancer; immunohistochemistry; prostatic intraepithelial neoplasia; aspiration cytology;

    Abstract : Prostate cancer remains the most commonly diagnosed life-threatening malignancy and the second leading cause of death from cancer in men. However, little is known about molecular mechanisms that underline its initiation and progression. READ MORE

  3. 3. NotI genome scanning to identify unknown cancer associated genes in major human epithelial malignancies

    Author : Klas Haraldson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Epithelial cancers cause many deaths every year. Changes in the genes of human chromosome 3 are particularly common in epithelial cancers in several organs. Alterations in DNA methylation is one of the best known epigenetic changes in cancer. READ MORE

    Abstract : Recent research demonstrated that besides a role in sex determination and male fertility, the Y chromosome is involved in additional functions including prostate cancer, sex-specific effects on the brain and behaviour, graft-versus-host disease, nociception, aggression and autoimmune diseases. The results presented in this thesis include an analysis of sex-biased genes encoded on the X and Y chromosomes of rodents. READ MORE
