  1. 1. The Role Of Serum Amyloid A In Inflammatory Disease - Proinflammatory Mediator Or Inert Biomarker?

    Author : Lena Björkman; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : neutrophils; serum amyloid A; rheumatoid arthritis;

    Abstract : Abstract: Neutrophils are phagocytes of the innate immune system with prominent roles in host defense and are also believed to be important in autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis (RA) by accumulating in inflamed joints and contribute to tissues destruction. Neutrophils differentiate in the bone-marrow and are mature cells when entering circulation with a cytoplasm packed with granules that contain toxic substances in addition to receptors that can be up-regulated to the cell surface during activation. 2. 2. Alzheimer's Disease: The role of alpha1-antichymotrypsin-amyloid peptide (Abeta 1-42) interaction in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease

    Author : Yongxin Sun; Lund Obstetrik och gynekologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; neurofysiologi; neuropsykologi; neurophysiology; Neurologi; neuropsychology; Neurology; lipid metabolism.; inflammation; á1-antichymotrypsin; Alzheimer’s disease; amyloid-â peptide;

    Abstract : Alzheimer?s disease (AD) is an age-related, irreversible brain disorder that occurs gradually and results in memory loss, behavioural and personality changes. The disease is characterized by an abnormal accumulation of amyloid-beta (Ab) peptide in the extracellular space and the protein Tau within nerve cells of certain regions of the brain. READ MORE

  3. 3. Gastric Bypass in Morbid Obesity : Postoperative Changes in Metabolic, Inflammatory and Gut Regulatory Peptides

    Author : Camilla Holdstock; Britt Edén Engström; Anders Karlsson; Per Hellström; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; gastric bypass; morbid obesity; ghrelin; C-reactive protein; pancreatic polypeptide; peptide YY; glucagon-like peptide-1; Medicine; Medicin;

    Abstract : This thesis examines the effect of surgical weight loss on gut and adipose tissue peptides involved in appetite regulation and energy homeostasis in morbidly obese humans. Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGBP) is the gold standard operation used for effective long-term weight loss and improved health. READ MORE

  4. 4. Lipoproteomics : A New Approach to the Identification and Characterization of Proteins in LDL and HDL

    Author : Helen Karlsson; Mats Lindahl; Christer Tagesson; Pia Davidsson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; LDL; HDL; Proteomik; Atheroskleros; Masspektrometri; 2-DE; Molecular medicine; Molekylär medicin;

    Abstract : A proteomic approach was applied to examine the protein composition of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) and high-density lipoprotein (HDL) in humans. LDL and HDL were isolated by density gradient ultracentrifugation, and proteins were separated with twodimensional gel electrophoresis (2-DE) and identified with peptide mass fingerprinting, using matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization-time of flight mass spectrometry, and with amino acid sequencing using electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry. 5. 5. Lipoproteomics : mapping of proteins in LDL and HDL

    Author : Helen Karlsson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : High-density lipoprotein (HDL) and (LDL)-density lipoprotein (LDL) are important lipoprotein fractions in human plasma. HDL is the most abundant lipoprotein particle and a negative risk factor of atherosclerosis while LDL is considered to possess atherogenic properties. READ MORE
