  1. 11. Kinetic stabilization of transthyretin and its role as an inhibitor of Aβ amyloid formation

    Author : Lina Nilsson; Anders Olofsson; Elisabeth Sauer-Eriksson; Gunilla Westermark; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Amyloid; transthyretin; amyloid beta; kinetic stabilizer; biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Abstract : Amyloid formation occurs when normally soluble proteins and peptides misfold and aggregate into intractable threadlike structures called fibrils. There are currently more than 30 proteins associated with this aberrant structure, including the Aβ peptide in Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and transthyretin (TTR) in TTR amyloidosis. READ MORE

  2. 12. Characterization of [18F]flutemetamol binding properties : A β-amyloid PET imaging ligand

    Author : Kerstin Heurling; Mark Lubberink; Jens Sörensen; Julie Price; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Positron emission tomography PET ; molecular imaging; amyloid; tracer validation; Radiology; Radiologi;

    Abstract : The criteria for diagnosing Alzheimer’s disease (AD) have recently been revised to include the use of biomarkers for the in vivo presence of β-amyloid, one of the neuropathological hallmarks of AD. Examples of such biomarkers are positron emission tomography (PET) β-amyloid specific ligands, including [18F]flutemetamol. READ MORE

  3. 13. Mechanisms involved in amyloid induced cytotoxicity

    Author : Johan Östman; Lars Lannfelt; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : amyloid; transthyretin; cytotoxicity; apoptosis; caspases; aggregation; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Abstract : Amyloidoses comprise a group of diseases where normal or mutated protein precipitates into amyloid fibrils. The deposition of fibrils causes dysfunction of organs and toxicity to nervous tissue. Up to date, 24 different proteins and peptides are known to be able to form amyloid fibrils. READ MORE

  4. 14. Development of 2-Pyridone-based central fragments : Affecting the aggregation of amyloid proteins

    Author : Magnus Sellstedt; Fredrik Almqvist; Petri Pihko; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; 2-pyridone; central fragment alteration; multi-component reactions; directed diversity-oriented synthesis; peptidomimetics; amyloid; protein aggregation; pilicide; curlicide; Biorganic Chemistry; bioorganisk kemi;

    Abstract : There are many applications of small organic compounds, e.g. as drugs or as tools to study biological systems. Once a compound with interesting biological activity has been found, medicinal chemists typically synthesize small libraries of compounds with systematic differences to the initial “hit” compound. 5. 15. Molecular Aspects of Transthyretin Amyloid Disease

    Author : Karin Sörgjerd; Per Hammarström; Joel Buxbaum; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Amyloid; apoptosis; BiP; chaperone; misfolding; oligomer; transthyretin; Biochemistry; Biokemi;

    Abstract : This thesis was made to get a deeper understanding of how chaperones interact with unstable, aggregation prone, misfolded proteins involved in human disease. Over the last two decades, there has been much focus on misfolding diseases within the fields of biochemistry and molecular biotechnology research. READ MORE
