  1. 1. Functional analysis of the mouse J chain

    Author : Lena Erlandsson; Immunologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Immunology; diphtheria toxin A; plasma cell; mucosa; J chain; knock-out; serology; transplantation; Immunologi; serologi;

    Abstract : We have in this study analyzed the function of the murine Joining chain (J chain) in vivo. J chain is a polypeptide found in sera and secretions in complex with pentameric IgM and dimeric IgA. READ MORE

  2. 2. Novel RelA-SpoT Homolog toxin-antitoxin systems that inhibit bacterial growth through production of toxic alarmone ppApp

    Author : Steffi Jimmy; Vasili Hauryliuk; Vicky Shingler; Michael T. Laub; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; p ppGpp; ppApp; toxin; antitoxin; alarmone; antibacterials; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Abstract : The stress alarmone nucleotides guanosine pentaphosphate (pppGpp) and tetraphosphate (ppGpp), collectively known as (p)ppGpp, are the molecular mediators of the bacterial stringent response — a bacterial stress response implicated in virulence, antibiotic tolerance and biofilm formation. At high concentrations, (p)ppGpp halts bacterial growth, inhibits protein synthesis and rewires transcription and metabolism. READ MORE

  3. 3. Primary hyperhidrosis : prevalence and impacts for the individual

    Author : Alexander Shayesteh Afshar; Elisabet Nylander; Urban Janlert; Christine Brulin; Jens Boman; Lennart Emtestam; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; primary hyperhidrosis; prevalence; characteristics; localization; quality of life; botulinum toxin; depression and anxiety; stigma; content analysis; Dermatology and Venerology; dermatologi och venereologi;

    Abstract : Primary hyperhidrosis, excessive sweating, is a condition with unknown prevalence in many parts of the world. The disease debuts in adolescence and it affects men and women in equal proportions. A genetic background exists and the most common localisation on the body for excessive sweating is the axillary region. READ MORE

  4. 4. Evolutionary trajectories of Klebsiella pneumoniae : From experimental biofilm evolution to a hospital outbreak

    Author : Greta Zaborskytė; Linus Sandegren; Vaughn S. Cooper; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Klebsiella pneumoniae; evolution; experimental evolution; biofilms; infection; bacterial pathogens; Mikrobiologi; Microbiology;

    Abstract : Bacterial evolution is closely intertwined with our lives. As their hosts, we shape how bacteria evolve by imposing numerous selective pressures during the time bacteria spend in our bodies. As a result, they adapt in various ways to colonize us or infect us better. READ MORE

  5. 5. Functional MRI characterization of animal models of parkinsonism

    Author : Cyril Monnot; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Parkinson's disease (PD) is the second most common neurological disorder. It is characterized by the progressive development of motor symptoms - bradykinesia, resting tremor, muscular rigidity and difficulty with postural control - which serve as criterias for its clinical diagnosis.
