  1. 1. Isocyanates and Amines – Sampling and Analytical Procedures

    Author : Åsa Marand; Gunnar Skarping; Marianne Dalene; Daniel Karlsson; Roy Rando; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Isocyanates; Amines; Polyurethane; Air sampling; Industrial hygiene; Mass spectrometry; Liquid chromatography; Chemiluminescence; Analytical chemistry; Analytisk kemi;

    Abstract : This thesis covers sampling and analytical procedures for isocyanates (R-NCO) and amines (R-NH2), two kinds of chemicals frequently used in association with the polymeric material polyurethane (PUR). Exposure to isocyanates may result in respiratory disorders and dermal sensitisation, and they are one of the main causes of occupational asthma. READ MORE

  2. 2. Resin acids in commercial products and the work environment of Swedish wood pellets production : Analytical methodology, occurrence and exposure

    Author : Sara Axelsson; Ulrika Nilsson; Kåre Eriksson; Håkan Westberg; Martin Harper; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Rosin; resin acids; HPLC ESI-MS; air sampling; urine samples; wood pellets; wood dust; Analytical Chemistry; analytisk kemi;

    Abstract : The aims of the work this thesis is based upon were to develop convenient analytical procedures for determining resin acids in biological and environmental matrices, and apply them to enhance understanding of the occurrence, exposure to and uptake by exposed individuals of resin acids. Particular focus has been on the workplace environment of the Swedish wood pellets industry. READ MORE

  3. 3. Analytical methods for studying polychlorinated naphtalene congener profiles and levels in the Environment

    Author : Ulf Järnberg; Terry Bidleman; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Analytical chemistry; Analytisk kemi; Analytical Chemistry; analytisk kemi;

    Abstract : This thesis describes the development, refinement and application of analytical techniques in conjunction with other methods for studying the environmental occurrence, distribution and transformation of polychlorinated naphthalenes (PCNs). The procedures involve selective high-performance liquid chromatographic fractionation on a styrene-divinylbenzene gel permeation column and 2-(1-pyrenyl)ethyldimethylsilylated silica column combined with high resolution gas chromatography and low resolution mass spectrometry. 4. 4. Mercury species transformations in marine and biological systems studied by isotope dilution mass spectrometry and stable isotope tracers

    Author : Lars Lambertsson; Wolfgang Frech; John Munthe; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Analytical chemistry; Mercury; methylmercury; ethylmercury; Thimerosal; speciation; methylation; demethylation; brackish water sediment; natural waters; GC-ICP-MS; species-specific isotope dilution; isotope enriched tracers; Analytisk kemi; Analytical chemistry; Analytisk kemi; analytisk kemi; Analytical Chemistry;

    Abstract : This thesis focuses on the implementation of species-specific isotope dilution (SSID) methodology and stable isotope tracers to determine mercury species occurrence and transformation processes in-situ and during sample treatment. Isotope enriched tracers of methyl-, ethyl- and inorganic mercury were synthesised and applied in different combinations to marine and biological samples. READ MORE

  5. 5. Development of Fast, Quantitative, Selective and Bioavailability-Predictive Extraction Procedures for Determination of Halogenated POPs in Environmental Matrices

    Author : Rikard Westbom; Centrum för analys och syntes; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Environmental chemistry; Analytisk kemi; Analytical chemistry; sample preparation; pressurized liquid extraction; persistent organic pollutants; supercritical fluid extraction; Miljökemi;

    Abstract : This thesis concerns the analysis of anthropogenic substances of the compound class known as persistent organic pollutants (POPs). Sample preparation perspectives for the analysis of POPs in the environmental matrices water, soils and sediments are presented. READ MORE
