  1. 11. An exploration of the mechanisms behind peripheral nerve injury

    Author : Rebecca Wiberg; Liudmila Novikova; Paul Kingham; Ash Mosahebi; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Peripheral nerve injury; target organ; spinal motoneurons; primary sensory neurons; degeneration; anatomi; Human Anatomy;

    Abstract : Despite surgical innovation, the sensory and motor outcome after peripheral nerve injury is incomplete. In this thesis, the biological pathways potentially responsible for the poor functional recoveries were investigated in both the distal nerve stump/target organ, spinal motoneurons and dorsal root ganglia (DRG). 2. 12. Middle ear structure in relation to function : the rat in middle ear research

    Author : Nils Albiin; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : rats; Eustachian tube; ear; middle; tympanic membrane; palatal muscles; mucous membrane; blood vessels; mast cells; otitis media; microscopy; electron;

    Abstract : The present study was undertaken to evaluate the rat as a model for middle ear research. The rat was chosen primarily because the gross structure of its middle ear shows several similarities to that of man. READ MORE

  3. 13. Neuropeptide and catecholamine effects on tenocytes in tendinosis development : studies on two model systems with focus on proliferation and apoptosis

    Author : Ludvig Backman; Patrik Danielson; Malcolm Collins; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; substance P; neurotransmitter; tendinopathy; overuse injury; rabbit; tendon cell; Achilles tendon;

    Abstract : Background: Achilles tendinopathy is a common clinical syndrome of chronic Achilles tendon pain combined with thickening of the tendon and impaired tendon function. Tendinopathy is often, but not always, induced by mechanical overload, and is frequently accompanied by abnormalities at the tissue level, such as hypercellularity and angiogenesis, in which case the condition is called tendinosis. 4. 14. Parietal cell regeneration in rat gastric mucosal wounds : a quantitative light and electron microscopical study

    Author : Håkan Blom; Herbert Helander; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Rat; gastric mucosa; gastric wounds; parietal cells; regeneration; pyloroplasty; truncal vagotomy; antrectomy; pentagastrin; cimetidine; carbacholine; stereology; light microscopy; electron microscopy; pH-studies;

    Abstract : The aims of the study were to obtain a method with which it would be possible to produce standardized wounds in the gastric mucosa, and to follow the regeneration of the acid producing parietal cells in those lesions during different experimental conditions. Quantitative methods applied to light and electron microscopy were used. READ MORE

  5. 15. Myofibrillens finstruktur i tvärstrimmig skelettmuskulatur

    Author : Anne-Christine Edman; Michael Sjöström; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Muscle; muscle fibre; fibre type; myofilament; A-band; M-band; cryo-ultramicrotomy; electron microscopy; image analysis;

    Abstract : The detailed structure of the myofibrillar material in fibres from different muscles has been studied. Specimens have been obtained from human muscles and from different muscles frequently examined in experimental studies. Both light- and electron microscopical techniques have been used. READ MORE
