  1. 16. Neuropeptides and neurotrophins in arthritis : studies on the human and mouse knee joint

    Author : Ola Grimsholm; Sture Forsgren; Solbritt Rantapää-Dahlqvist; Elvar Theodorsson; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; neuropeptides; neurotrophins; bombesin gastrin-releasing peptide; substance P; brain-derived neurotrophic factor; synovial tissue; knee joint; rheumatoid arthritis; Anatomy; Anatomi;

    Abstract : Neuropeptides, such as substance P (SP) and bombesin/gastrin-releasing peptide (BN/GRP), and neurotrophins are involved in neuro-immunomodulatory processes and have marked trophic, growth-promoting and inflammation-modulating properties. The impact of these modulators in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is, however, unclear. READ MORE

  2. 17. Brain Aromatase in the guppy, Poecilia reticulata : Distribution, control and role in behaviour

    Author : Stefan Hallgren; Håkan Olsén; Bertil Borg; Julie Bakker; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Oestrogen production; behaviour; anatomy; endocrinology; bio markers; endocrine disruption; Organism biology; Organismbiologi; funktionell morfologi; Functional Zoomorphology; Biology;

    Abstract : Oestrogens are produced by aromatisation of androgens by the aromatase enzyme. In the vertebrate brain this synthesis has vital functions in nerve protection, cell proliferation and nerve development during injury respectively brain development. READ MORE

  3. 18. The Role of Impaired Interatrial Conduction in Paroxysmal Atrial Fibrillation

    Author : Pyotr Platonov; Kardiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; electrophysiology; Cardiovascular system; anatomy; interatrial conduction; lone atrial fibrillation; Kardiovaskulära systemet;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to evaluate the role of interatrial conduction defects in the genesis of lone paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (AF) using combined approach of non-invasive signal-averaged P-wave ECG, invasive electrophysiological (EP) studies, anatomical studies and animal experiments. Non-filtered signal-averaged P-wave ECG revealed irregularities in orthogonal P-wave morphology and the presence of double-peaked configurations of P-wave spatial magnitude in patients with lone paroxysmal AF compared with healthy individuals (I), suggesting the presence of interatrial conduction delays localised in the posterior-inferior interatrial route. 4. 19. The anatomy of literary figurativeness : Mapping metaphoric coherence in Dylan Thomas's poetics of embodiment

    Author : Anne Päivärinta; Finland University of Tampere; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Comparative literature; Litteraturvetenskap;

    Abstract : Tutkielma tarkastelee walesilaisen Dylan Thomasin (1914–1953) runoudessa esiintyviä ruumiillisuudelle rakentuvia kielikuvia. Tavoitteena on osoittaa, että ruumiillistaminen (embodiment) on paitsi Raamatun luomiskertomuksen ja syntiinlankeemuksen myytteihin pohjaava teema Thomasin runoissa, myös kielikuvien rakentumista määrittävä tekijä. 5. 20. Cell Contacts and Airway Epithelial Damage in Asthma

    Author : Shahida Shahana; Godfried Roomans; Rolf Odselius; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Anatomy; Desmosomes; tight junctions; major basic protein; eosinophil; cytokines; epithelial damage.; Anatomi; Anatomy; Anatomi;

    Abstract : Airway epithelial damage is commonly found in asthma patients. Epithelial damage was investigated with special reference to contacts between epithelial cells.Eosinophils, common in allergic asthma, secrete cationic proteins, particularly major basic protein (MBP). READ MORE
