  1. 1. Finite Element Analysis and Design of Experiments in Engineering Design

    Author : Martin Eriksson; Produktutveckling; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Finite element analyses; Predictive Design Analysis; Mechanical engineering design process; Design Of Experiments; Predictive Engineering;

    Abstract : Projects with the objective of introducing Finite Element Analysis (FEA) into the early phases of the design process have previously been carried out at the Department of Machine Design, see e.g. the Doctoral thesis by Burman [13]. These works clearly highlight the usefulness of introducing design analysis early in the design process. READ MORE

  2. 2. Moisture-induced stress and distortion of wood : A numerical and experimental study of wood's drying and long-term behaviour

    Author : Sara Florisson; Sigurdur Ormarsson; Johan Vessby; Kent Persson; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; analytical method; calibration; controlled climate; creep; distortion; experimental methodology; FEM; fibre orientation; mechano-sorption; moisture transport; natural climate; Norway spruce; numerical model; three-dimensional; timber beam; validation; wood; Byggteknik; Civil engineering; Forestry and Wood Technology; Skog och träteknik;

    Abstract : With the current advances made in three-dimensional modelling of wood, it is possible to provide an overall picture of moisture flow, and moisture-induced stress and deformations, whereas previously, experiments only provided local measurements. The main aim of the doctoral thesis is to investigate the possibilities of the developed three-dimensional numerical model to predict the behaviour of wood when simultaneously exposed to a mechanical load and a particular climate. 3. 3. From CAD to FEA : A design automation perspective

    Author : Roland Stolt; Jönköping University; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Idealisation; CAD; Finite element analysis; mid-surfaces; KBES; Feature based modelling; knowledge based systems; TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIKVETENSKAP; Construction engineering; Konstruktionsteknik;

    Abstract : CAD-models of parts produced by injection moulding or die-casting are often complex making the task of automated geometrical idealisation for finite element analysis difficult. Conventional tools for geometric idealisation are not ideal for the task, as will be shown in the thesis. READ MORE

    Abstract : This thesis focuses on the effect of microstructural variation on the mechanical properties and deformation behavior of ductile iron. To research and determine these effects, two grades of ductile iron, (i) GJS-500-7 and (ii) high silicon GJS-500-14, were cast in a geometry containing several plates with different section thicknesses in order to produce microstructural variation. 5. 5. Design Automation Systems for Production Preparation : Applied on the Rotary Draw Bending Process

    Author : Joel Johansson; Staffan Sunnersjö; Bo Bengtsson; Jönköping University; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Design automation; Rotary draw bending; Knowledge Based Engineering KBE ; and Finite Element Analysis FEA ; Other technology; Övriga teknikvetenskaper;

    Abstract : Intensive competition on the global market puts great pressure on manufacturing companies to develop and produce products that meet requirements from customers and investors. One key factor in meeting these requirements is the efficiency of the product development and the production preparation process. READ MORE
