  1. 1. Modeling internal deformation of salt structures targeted for radioactive waste disposal

    Author : Zurab Chemia; Hemin Koyi; Harro Schmeling; Ian Alsop; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : salt; diapir; anhydrite; deformation; entrainment; numerical modeling; rheology; sinking; Gorleben;

    Abstract : This thesis uses results of systematic numerical models to argue that externally inactive salt structures, which are potential targets for radioactive waste disposal, might be internally active due to the presence of dense layers or blocks within a salt layer.The three papers that support this thesis use the Gorleben salt diapir (NW Germany), which was targeted as a future final repository for high-grade radioactive waste, as a general guideline. 2. 2. Parameters Controlling Distribution of Diagenetic Alterations within Fluvial and Shallow Marine Sandstone Reservoirs : Evidence from the Libyan Basins

    Author : Muftah Khalifa; Hemin Koyi; Joao Marcelo Medina Ketzer; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Diagenesis; Structural setting; Depositional facies; Basin thermal history; Ther- mal Hot basinal brines; Fluid inclusions; Raman Spectrometry; Stylolites; Hydro-carbon migration; Geovetenskap med inriktning mot mineralogi; petrologi och tektonik; Earth Science with specialization in Mineral Chemistry; Petrology and Tectonics;

    Abstract : This thesis demonstrates that geological setting, depositional facies, open system flux of hot basinal brines and descending of shallow waters have a strong impact on the distribution of the diagenetic alterations within continental and paralic/shallow marine sandstones which in turn control the quality and heterogeneities of the reservoirs.Geological setting controls the mineralogical and textural maturity of sandstone, whereas depositional facies control the pore water chemistry (marine, brackish or meteoric), sedimentary texture and sand body geometry.
