11. Ecologies of Practices and Thinking
Abstract : How does a new materialist film practice look? To approach this question the practice-led material driven research explores dynamic ecological relations and processes of thinking and practicing. It employs an animist methodology which allows it to relate to the nonhuman as an active participant, rather than a passive object of inquiry. READ MORE

13. Initiation of ventilation, surfactant treatment, and lung function after preterm birth
Abstract : The thesis investigates lung function and the effects of rescue surfactant treatment in mechanically ventilated preterm human infants with respiratory distress syndrome (RDS), and the effects of ventilation at birth on the response to surfactant supplementation in preterm lambs. To assess lung function, the author recorded static pressure-volume (P-V) curves during passive deflation from total lung capacity (TLC) to ambient pressure and measured end-expiratory lung volume (FRC) during mechanical ventilation by tracer gas washout. 14. Early assessment of efficacy and safety of novel anticoagulants as exemplified by direct thrombin inhibitors. Non-clinical pharmacodynamic studies in vitro and in vivo
Abstract : The drawbacks of today's anticoagulants are parenteral use (heparins), a narrow interval between efficacy and bleeding, and the high variability of effect with a consequent need for frequent monitoring (coumarins). The aim of the current studies was to evaluate properties important for efficacy and safety of novel anticoagulants, as exemplified by direct thrombin inhibitors, with non-clinical methods. READ MORE

15. Early ventilatory management and lung function in the immature newly born. Experimental studies in lambs
Abstract : Using an animal model, the thesis explores how the initial ventilation of the lungs, and surfactant therapy, should best be managed after premature birth. Material and measurements: The studies were made in newborn lambs delivered by cesarean section. READ MORE
