1. Optimizing and Approximating Algorithms for the Single and Multiple Agent Precedence Constrained Generalized Traveling Salesman Problem
Abstract : In the planning phases of automated manufacturing, generating efficient programs for robot stations is a crucial problem which needs to be solved. One aspect of the programming is the optimization of task sequences, such as series of welds or measuring points, so that the cycle time is minimized. READ MORE

2. Identification of principal chemical subsets of biofuel combustion : Ants walking in renewable fire
Abstract : The work in this thesis was carried out to highlight important chemical pathways in skeletal mechanisms for the three smallest alcohol fuels (methanol, ethanol and npropanol), two representative fuel alkanes n-heptane and n-decane, and finally the biodiesel surrogates, methyl-decanoate, methyl-5-decenoate, and methyl-9-decenoate. This aim was set up to further the efforts of creating Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) suitable mechanisms, which in turn can be used by the industry to improve, for example, engines or gas turbines, or by academia to further understand turbulent combustion. 3. Effects of Social Organisation on Spatial Genetic Structures in Formica Ants
Abstract : The social organization of social insect colonies can be broadly defined as monogynous, single reproductive female or polygynous, several reproductive females. Monogynous organization is genetically simple while polygynous is more complex and the two social forms differ commonly in mating and dispersal behaviour as well as in colony foundation. READ MORE

4. Adaptive significance of queen mating frequency in ants : In search of benefits of genetic variability
Abstract : Fitness effects of polyandry, multiple mating by females, were studied on two ant speciesLasius niger and Formica truncorum. Particular emphasis was put on evaluating diploid male load, which happens when homozygosity in the sex determination locus leads to intendedfemales developing into sterile, diploid males. READ MORE

5. The art of transcriptome reconstruction : with applications in Picea abies (L.) H. Karst
Abstract : Transcriptome reconstruction is an important component in the bioinformatical part of transcriptome studies. When a reference genome is missing, highly fragmented or incomplete, a de novo transcriptome assembly is the transcriptome reconstruction approach of choice, since in such situations, a simple alignment (or mapping) would not necessarily give all theinformation concerning splice junctions, isoforms or even the full extent of the gene.
