  1. 1. Treatment and outcome of anterior cruciate ligament injury: Truth or Consequences

    Author : Richard Frobell; Lund Ortopedi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; magnetic resonance imaging; Knee injuries; treatment; anterior cruciate ligament; outcome;

    Abstract : The overall aim of the work presented in this thesis was to evaluate the incidence, outcome and consequences within the 1st year of acute ACL injury of the knee. The KANON-study, a randomized controlled clinical trial comparing surgical and non-surgical treatment after acute ACL injury, was initiated and some results are included in this thesis. READ MORE

  2. 2. Anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction : Anatomic and biomechanical considerations of graft placement and fixation

    Author : Lars Good; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : This study, comprising 7 separate papers, is concerned with the mechanical causes of graft failure after intraarticular reconstruction of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). The study is predominantly experimental in design, but a clinical follow-up is also included to test a causal hypothesis of secondary graft elongation. READ MORE

  3. 3. Acute anterior cruciate ligament injuries : evaluation of surgical och non-surgical treatment

    Author : A. Christer Andersson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : This study comprising 6 separate papers is concerned with the treatment of patients with acute anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury. The aim was to compare primary surgical and non-surgical ACL treatment. Treatment was, therefore, instituted at random in all consecutive patients (n = 293) with ACL injury. READ MORE

  4. 4. Knee joint laxity and kinematics after anterior cruciate ligament rupture : roentgen stereophotogrammetric and clinical evaluation before and after treatment

    Author : Håkan Jonsson; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Anterior cruciate ligament; Kinematics; Anterior-posterior laxity; Surgery; Roentgen stereophotogrammetric analysis; Muscle strength; Functional tests;

    Abstract : Rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) increases anterior-posterior (AP) laxity. The treatment aims to reduce or teach the patient to control this instability. Altered kinematics due to absent ligament function may result in knee arthrosis. This study evaluated the clinical and functional results of reconstructive surgery. READ MORE

  5. 5. Chronic anterior cruciate ligament tear : knee function and knee extensor muscle size, morphology and function before and after surgical reconstruction

    Author : Lars-Gunnar Elmqvist; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; knee joint; ligaments; articular; surgery; muscle fibre; isokinetics; exercise therapy; muscular atrophy; electromyography;

    Abstract : Knee function was evaluated by knee score, activity level, clinical findings and performance tests, muscle size by computerized tomography (CT), morphology by light (LM) and electron microscopy (EM), muscle function by electromyography (EMG) and isokinetic performance in 29 patients with chronic anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear. Preoperatively CT disclosed a significant mean atrophy of the quadriceps and nonsignificant changes of the other muscle areas of the injured leg. READ MORE
