  1. 1. Regulation of UV induced apoptosis in human melanocytes

    Author : Cecilia Bivik; Inger Rosdahl; Karin Öllinger; Maria Shoshan; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; apoptosis; UV; melanocyte; lysosome; cathepsin; Bcl-2; Bax; Hsp70; JNK; Dermatology and venerology; Dermatologi och venerologi;

    Abstract : Malignant melanoma arises from the pigment producing melanocytes in epidermis and is the most aggressive type of skin cancer. The incidence of malignant melanoma is increasing faster than any other type of cancer in white population worldwide, with a doubling rate every 10-20 years. READ MORE

  2. 2. Local adaptive pigmentation in Asellus aquaticus -effects of UV-radiation and predation regime

    Author : Jonas Johansson; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Marinbiologi; limnology; aquatic ecology; marine biology; Hydrobiology; Ekologi; Ecology; damselfly; perch; UV-avoidance; isopod; anti-predator traits; evolution; selective predation; limnologi; akvatisk ekologi; Animal ecology; Djurekologi;

    Abstract : Pigmentation in the freshwater isopod Asellus aquaticus differed between two habitats. Asellus were lighter pigmented in stands of submerged stonewort vegetation, than in nearby reed stands. Moreover, Asellus pigmentation became lighter with time in recently established stonewort stands. READ MORE

  3. 3. Development of Nanoimprint Lithography for Fabrication of Electrochemical Transducers

    Author : Marc Beck; Fasta tillståndets fysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; electrochemistry; interdigitated array; anti-adhesion; anti-sticking; stamp; mold; monolayer deposition; Fysik; post-imprint processes; Physics; transducer; nanoimprint lithography; sensor; Fysicumarkivet A:2003:Beck;

    Abstract : This thesis gives an overview about the current status of nanoimprint lithography, a relatively new nanofabrication tool. The technology is capable for parallel mass production of nm-structured features having a resolution below 10 nm and is usable with high throughput on full wafer scale. READ MORE

  4. 4. UVA/B induced redox alterations and apoptosis in human melanocytes

    Author : Petra Wäster Larsson; Inger Rosdahl; Karin Öllinger; Ian Cotgreave; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; UV; melanocyte; apoptosis; glutathione; p53; Dermatology and venerology; Dermatologi och venerologi;

    Abstract : Malignant melanoma is one of the most rapidly increasing cancers and accounts for about three-quarter of all skin cancer deaths worldwide. Despite compelling evidence that ultraviolet (UV) irradiation causes melanoma the knowledge how various wavelength spectra affect the balance between proliferation and apoptosis controlling the homeostasis of the melanocyte population is still limited. 5. 5. Quantum Chemical Studies of Protein-Bound Chromophores, UV-Light Induced DNA Damages, and Lignin Formation

    Author : Bo Durbeej; Leif Eriksson; Tim Clark; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Quantum chemistry; quantum chemistry; calculations; density functional theory; excited states; photochemistry; chromophores; absorption spectra; bathochromic shift; isomerization; UV radiation; DNA damages; cycloaddition reactions; photoenzymic repair; electron transfer; lignin; polymerization; phenoxy radicals; dilignols; Kvantkemi; Quantum chemistry; Kvantkemi;

    Abstract : Quantum chemical methods have been used to provide a better understanding of the photochemistry of astaxanthin and phytochromobilin; the photoenzymic repair of UV-light induced DNA damages; and the formation of lignin. The carotenoid astaxanthin (AXT) is responsible for the colouration of lobster shell. READ MORE
