    Abstract : ¨The atherosclerotic process is considered to be driven by an imbalance between proand anti-inflammatory actions. Still, the inflammatory state in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) remains to be clarified. READ MORE

  3. 8. Molecular basis for the anti-inflammatory properties of chlomethiazole

    Author : Anastasia Simi; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Stroke; neuroprotection; p38 MAP kinase; chlomethiazole; interleukin-1; c-fos; inflammation; glia; lipopolysaccharide; molecular mechanisms; ischaemia;

    Abstract : Chlomethiazole (CMZ) exerts neuroprotective effects in animal models of stroke, and its clinical efficacy is currently evaluated in acute stroke patients. CMZ also protects the liver from alcohol- induced oxidative damage by inhibiting the cytochrome P450 2E1 (CYP2E1), as well as inflammation associated with alcohol liver disease (ALD) by inhibiting cytokine expression. Abstract : With increasing problem of resistance development in bacteria against conventional antibiotics, as well as problems associated with diseases either triggered or enhanced by infection, there is an urgent need to identify new types of effective therapeutics for the treatment of infectious diseases and its consequences. Antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory peptides have attracted considerable interest as potential new antibiotics in this context. READ MORE

  5. 10. Fatty acid amide hydrolase - A target for anti-inflammatory therapies?

    Author : Sandra Holt; Christopher J Fowler; Anders Bucht; Gunnar Tiger; Ruth A Ross; Umeå universitet; []

    Abstract : Anti-inflammatory drugs are a widely used class of therapeutic agents, but the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID) is hampered by their gastrointestinal side-effects. Recent reports that cyclooxygenase-2 inhibitors may cause cardiovascular events underline the importance of identifying new therapeutic strategies for the treatment of inflammation. READ MORE
