  1. 16. Measurements and Prediction of Friction Drag of Rough Surfaces

    Author : Bercelay Niebles Atencio; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; PIV; RANS; Turbulent Boundary Layers; Flat Plate; Resolved CFD; Hydrodynamics; Roughness Function; Wall Functions; Rotating Disk;

    Abstract : Owing to the increased sea transportation of goods, the environmental impacts of this activity are becoming more and more important, since a ship experiences resistance that directly affects its performance and fuel consumption. The growth of marine organisms (fouling) on ship hulls increases the roughness of the hull surface, which in turn causes a rise in ship resistance with a consequent increase in fuel consumption and greenhouse emissions of up to 40%. 2. 17. Impacts of recreational boating in coastal seascapes and implications for management

    Author : Jenny Egardt; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; leisure boats; management; environmental impact; marine national park;

    Abstract : Kosterhavet National Park, a marine protected area on the Swedish west coast, is a popular destination for tourists and attracts over half a million visitors annually. Many of the tourists arrive by boat, and the natural harbours are frequently visited. READ MORE

  3. 18. Antivirulent and antibiofilm salicylidene acylhydrazide complexes in solution and at interfaces

    Author : Shoghik Hakobyan; Madeleine Ramstedt; Jean-Francois Boily; Mikael Elofsson; Marcus Textor; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Antivirulent; Antibiofilm; Hydrazones; Gallium; Pseudomonas aeruginosa; Type three secretion system; Equilibrium constant; Chemical equilibrium modelling; Spectrophotometric titration; UV-Vis;

    Abstract : The growing bacterial resistance against antibiotics creates a limitation for using traditional antibiotics and requests development of new approaches for treatment of bacterial infections. Among the bacterial infections that are most difficult to treat, biofilm-associated infections are one of the most hazardous. READ MORE

  4. 19. Lipase catalysed reactions of terpenoids : formation of hemiacetal esters : resolution of cryptone and its transformation to cadinenes

    Author : Dan Isaksson; Fredrik Almqvist; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; terpenoid; lipase; resolution; hemiacetal; hemiacetal ester; enantioselective; synthesis; cryptone; cadinene; Organic chemistry; Organisk kemi;

    Abstract : During attempted enzyme-catalysed resolution of sterically hindered secondary alcohols, hemiacetals and their esters were unexpectedly detected. Hemiacetal esters are reactive compounds that decompose to alcohol, aldehyde and acid under ordinary work-up conditions i.e. in contact with water, acid, or silica gel. READ MORE

  5. 20. Genomics and metabolomics in the North Atlantic deep-sea sponge Geodia barretti

    Author : Karin Steffen; Paco Cárdenas; Ulf Göransson; Anders Backlund; Susanna López-Legentil; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; demosponge; whole genome sequencing; population genetics; peptide synthesis; Farmakognosi; Pharmacognosy;

    Abstract : Sponges are among the earliest diverging taxa in the animal tree of life. They are sessile, filter-feeding animals found in marine and freshwater habitats. Many species are characterized by a close, specific and consistent association with microbes, mainly Bacteria and Archaea. READ MORE
