  2. 7. Surface characterization and manipulation of polyampholytic hydrogel coatings

    Author : Feng-I Tai; Thomas Ederth; Bo Liedberg; Lei Ye; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Hydrogels; antifouling; charge-balanced material; polyampholytes; force measurements; polymer swelling; protein adsorption; patterning; plasmonics;

    Abstract : This thesis is dedicated to building up fundamental knowledge about polyampholytic hydrogels, which are developed in our group for anti-fouling purposes. Charge-balanced polymers, where positive and negative charges balance each other, have emerged as interesting candidates for many applications in materials science. READ MORE

  3. 8. Use and environmental impact of antifouling paints in the Baltic Sea

    Author : Maria Alexandra Bighiu; Ann-Kristin Eriksson-Wiklund; Bethanie Carney Almroth; Manu Soto; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; boats; antifouling paints; metals; XRF; in situ; caging; Theodoxus fluviatilis; toxicity; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Abstract : Biocide-based antifouling (AF) paints are the most common method for preventing biofouling, i.e. the growth of algae, barnacles and other organisms on boat hulls. AF paints for leisure boats are predominantly based on copper (Cu) as the main biocide, with zinc (Zn) present as a pigment and stabilizer. READ MORE

  4. 9. Occurrence and environmental risk assessment of antifouling paint biocides from leisure boats

    Author : Maria Lagerström; Ann-Kristin Eriksson Wiklund; Erik Ytreberg; Kent Salo; Andrew Turner; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Antifouling paint; XRF; leisure boat; recreational boating; copper; zinc; tributyltin; organotin compounds; risk assessment; biocide; metals; release rate; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Abstract : The use of biocidal antifouling (AF) paints is the most common way to prevent fouling on leisure boat hulls. The main aim of this thesis was to investigate the pathways through which AF biocides, past and present, may reach the environment through their use on leisure boats and to improve the risk assessment of biocidal AF paints intended for amateur use. 5. 10. Bioactive Compounds from the Marine Sponge Geodia barretti : Characterization, Antifouling Activity and Molecular Targets

    Author : Martin Sjögren; Lars Bohlin; Per Jonsson; Anna-Karin Borg-Karlsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Pharmacognosy; Geodia barretti; barettin; secondary metabolites; settling inhibition; Balanus improvisus; analogs; 5-HT; Farmakognosi;

    Abstract : The marine sponge Geodia barretti produces a range of secondary metabolites. Two of these compounds were isolated and elucidated guided by their ability to inhibit settlement of cypris larvae of the barnacle Balanus improvisus. READ MORE
