  1. 1. Tissue prostatic specific antigen (T-PSA) : a way to predict and understand the development of prostate cancer

    Author : Mirtha Grande; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Tissue PSA; aspiration biopsies; estrogens; ecNOS mRNA expression; ET1 mRNA expression; LNCaP-FGC; LNCaP-r.;

    Abstract : Prostate cancer (CaP) is the most prevalent malignancy among men in Sweden. One major problem associated with CaP is the choice of treatment since the disease may develop very differently from patient to patient. Many efforts have focused on the development of markers for prognosis and monitoring treatment affecting the endocrine system of CaP. READ MORE

  2. 2. Dynamic regulation of DNA methylation in human T-cell biology

    Author : Antonio Lentini; Colm Nestor; Mikael Benson; Huan Zhang; Mika Gustafsson; Ian R. Adams; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : T helper cells play a central role in orchestrating immune responses in humans. Upon encountering a foreign antigen, T helper cells are activated followed by a differentiation process where the cells are specialised to help combating the infection. READ MORE

  3. 3. The role of leptin in endothelial dysfunction and cardiovascular disease

    Author : Manuel Cruz Gonzalez Garcia; Stefan Söderberg; Jan Engvall; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; leptin; obesity; endothelial dysfunction; cardiovascular disease; kardiologi; Cardiology;

    Abstract : Objective:  Obesity has become the leading cause of mortality worldwide; however, the fundamental pathophysiology underlying this association remains unclear. The discovery of adipokines, i.e., cytokines produced by adipose cells (adipocytes), revealed that adipose tissue is a highly endocrine organ, thus opening new lines of investigation. READ MORE

  4. 4. Immunity to Salmonella infection

    Author : Cecilia Johansson; Immunologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Immunology; serology; transplantation; Immunologi; serologi; cytokines; antigen presentation; liver; dendritic cells; Salmonella; gram negative bacteria;

    Abstract : The immune system has several strategies to combat infections. The present study investigates various aspects of the interaction between Gram negative bacteria, particularly Salmonella, and antigen presenting cells (APC). Salmonella is an intracellular bacterium infecting mice and man. READ MORE

  5. 5. THE ROLE OF DENDRITIC CELLS AND TYPE I INTERFERON IN THE GENERATION AND FUNCTION OF T FOLLICULAR HELPER CELLS

    Author : Helena Cucak; Immunologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; T follicular helper cells; Type I interferon; Dendritic cells;

    Abstract : Generation of long-lived plasma cells and memory B cells of high affinity takes place in germinal centers and depends on help from a specialized CD4+ T cell subset termed T follicular helper (Tfh) cells. These processes are crucial for long-term protection upon natural infection or in settings of vaccination, however they are also responsible for development of antibody-mediated autoimmune disease.
