6. Interactive antiproliferative mechanisms when 5-fluorouracil is combined with cisplatin or ionizing radiation : an in vivo and in vitro experimental study
Abstract : Results from clinical studies and experimental investigations have given evidence of a synergistic effect when 5- fluorouracil (5-FU) has been combined with radiation or cisplatin (CDDP). From earlier experiments performed by the research team we know, that addition of S-FU to CDDP can synergistically increase the antiproliferative effect. READ MORE

7. Glucocorticoid receptor cross-talk with NF-kappaB and AP-1 : functional role and mechanisms
Abstract : The protein investigated in this thesis is the glucocorticoid receptor (GR), which is a ligand activated transcription factor that belongs to the superfamily of nuclear hormone receptors. The GR contains three functional independent domains, the N-terminal domain containing a major transactivation region, the central DNA binding domain (DBD) and the C-terminal domain that binds the hormone/ligand. 8. Bioactivity of Medicinal Bolivian Andean plants. Effects on cell proliferation and related processes
Abstract : Colon cancer is common in both developed and developing countries, and is responsible for at least 600,000 deaths globally every year. It is therefore the second most common cause of cancer-related mortality. Extensive studies are being conducted worldwide to find more effective drugs that can be used in cancer treatment. READ MORE

9. Studies of bioactive lipids in cancer
Abstract : Lipids are a broad class of molecules that, besides being a major form of energy storage and components of cell membranes, act as bioactive signalling molecules. N-acyl taurines are structurally related to endocannabinoids that are known to exert antiproliferative actions in a variety of cancer cells. READ MORE

10. Involvement of Heparan Sulphate Biosynthesis and Turnover in Cell Proliferation. A Novel Role for Nitric Oxide in Recycling of Heparan Sulphate Proteoglycans
Abstract : The present investigation focuses on the role of HS metabolism in cell proliferation. The effect of the HS priming ß-D-xyloside, 2-(6-hydroxynaphthyl)-O-ß-D-xylopyranoside (Xyl-2-Nap-6-OH) on the proliferation of normal and transformed cells was studied. READ MORE
