  1. 16. Environmental Perspectives on Urban Material Stocks used in Construction : Granular Materials

    Author : Simon Magnusson; Sven Knutsson; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Soil Mechanics; Geoteknik;

    Abstract : The peoples demand of functions and services in cities is the driver for energy and material flows. Most people in the world are now living in urban areas. In order to achieve a sustainable development of cities, both resource use and environmental impact have to be reduced. READ MORE

  2. 17. Identifying Parameters for Aging-Adaptive Battery Management

    Author : Moritz Streb; Göran Lindbergh; Matilda Klett; Kandler Smith; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Lithium-ion battery; Parameter estimation; Aging-adaptive usage; Electrochemical battery management; Litiumjonbatteri; Parameteruppskattning; Åldringsmedveten användning; Elektrokemisk batterikontroll; Chemical Engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Abstract : The modern transportation system is largely based on fossil fuels. To reduce this reliance on oil and gas and thereby drastically reduce emissions, a transition to renewable power sources is necessary. Lithium-ion batteries are the most established candidate for electromobility applications, with suitable energy and power densities. READ MORE

  3. 18. Mesenchymal stem cells for repair of the peripheral and central nervous system

    Author : Maria Brohlin; Mikael Wiberg; Martin Birchall; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Bone marrow-derived stromal cells; Schwann cells; Peripheral nerve injury; Spinal cord injury; Neurotransplantation; anatomi; Human Anatomy; cell research; cellforskning;

    Abstract : Bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) have been shown to provide neuroprotection after transplantation into the injured nervous system. The present thesis investigates whether adult human and rat MSC differentiated along a Schwann cell lineage could increase their expression of neurotrophic factors and promote regeneration after transplantation into the injured peripheral nerve and spinal cord. 4. 19. Improving properties of poly(lactic acid) biopolymer for use in food packaging

    Author : Mitul Kumar Patel; Kristiina Oksman; Mohini Sain; Marc Delgado Aguire; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; biopolymer; poly lactic acid ; chitin nanocrystals; barrier properties; liquid assisted extrusion; Trä och bionanokompositer; Wood and Bionanocomposites;

    Abstract : The petroleum-based plastics are widely used for food packaging applications because of their low cost, easy processability, and tunable properties to meet the specific needs of food packaging. However, these polymers are non-biodegradable, leading to a substantial amount of plastic waste in both land and marine ecosystems. READ MORE

  5. 20. Computer use @ work : Psychosocial work environment and attitudes toward computers from a work content perspective

    Abstract : This thesis aims at investigating computer use at work from a more holistic work content perspective by also studying non-computer work content, in contrast to the previous approach in occupational health research that focused almost solely on computer work content. It was argued here that non-computer work content has also become significant to the overall work situation for computer users. READ MORE
