    Abstract : Background: Despite the successful development in cardiac surgery, cerebrovascular accidents (CVA) remain a devastating complication. Aortic atherosclerosis has been identified as a major risk factor for CVA. READ MORE

  2. 2. Minimally invasive aortic valve replacement

    Author : Magnus Dalén; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP;

    Abstract : Background: Minimally invasive aortic valve replacement (AVR) through a ministernotomy has been developed as an alternative approach to conventional full sternotomy AVR. During recent years, sutureless aortic bioprostheses were introduced with the aim to facilitate implantation, especially in minimally invasive procedures. READ MORE

  3. 3. New Intraoperative Techniques to Improve Advanced Aortic Root Surgery

    Author : Faleh Alrashidi; Thoraxkirurgi; []

    Abstract : Study I: Thirteen patients underwent a modified Ross operation in which the free-standing pulmonary autograft was supported externally by a Dacron vascular prosthetic jacket (DVPJ). The tailor-made DVPJ prevented dilatation of the neo-aortic root significantly following a median follow-up of 47 months compared to a cohort of l3 matched patients undergoing conventional Ross operation.
